Yesterday, Hurricane Debby was upgraded from a tropical storm to a Category 1 hurricane, as it made landfall in the Big Bend of Florida. The effects of the storm are expected to be felt throughout Florida today. A tornado watch is in effect until 4 p.m. for nine Central Florida counties, including Orange, the home to both Universal Orlando Resort and Walt Disney World.

As of now, all theme parks are open. However, this could change if the weather gets severe enough throughout the day. Guests should also be prepared for ride closures throughout the day, as well as heavy rain and sustained wind gusts of up to 36 miles per hour. In addition to the tornado watch, Orange County has been issued a severe weather advisory and wind advisory, which states that winds could reach 80 miles per hour throughout the day.

Updates regarding the trajectory and impact of Hurricane Debby will continue to be provided by the National Weather Service and National Hurricane Center.
