After watching this week’s Disney Dining Show where the gang discussed some of their favorite places to have breakfast at Walt Disney World, I started wondering what some of these dining experiences are going to look like in the future.
You may have read a column I wrote back in May where I pondered whether or not Character Dining would be able to exist in our new social distancing world. I offered an interesting possible solution to the actual buffet line that could work, but unfortunately, it wouldn’t work with my very favorite breakfast buffet at The Wave… of American Flavors due to the way it’s set up. I thought maybe plexiglass in front of the food might work, but there is a wall behind this particular buffet and you don’t see the kitchen at all. In fact, cast members come around the front to replenish the food on the buffet. Perhaps they could do something with the wall like cut windows out or something?
Thank goodness the Sweet Potato Pancakes on the buffet at The Wave can also be found on their ala carte menu because we often head there for breakfast on our departure day and those are some of our favorite things.
Moreso than Character Dining changing, I have the slightest fear of some of my other favorites disappearing or no longer being available. Don’t get me wrong, I know things are going to be vastly different when these restaurants reopen, but the thought of not being able to enjoy the breakfast buffet at Boma – Flavors of Africa the way we’ve done for so many years bums me out just a bit. Some of my absolute favorite things are on that buffet like their French Toast Bread Pudding and their Scrambled Eggs with Goat Cheese.
It would be a shame if I didn’t mention the amazing breakfast buffet over at Trail’s End Restaurant which is located at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort. On many of our Magic Kingdom days, we’d actually take Disney transportation from our Resort hotel straight to the park then we’d walk over to the boat launch and head over to the Fort. Conveniently, the boat drops you off just steps away from this hidden gem of a restaurant so it’s really not a terrible way to spend your morning. I love the idea of being leisurely when I’m at Disney World as opposed to rushing around like crazy, so the whole two modes of transportation thing does not bother me in the slightest bit.
We do know that the Character Dining we’re used to will not return right away when Resort restaurants begin to open on June 22nd. Topolino’s Terrace at Disney’s Riviera Resort will be the only location to offer a modified Character breakfast upon reopening.
Please tell me in the comments section if there are any buffet restaurants that will have you in a whirl if they’re drastically different when they reopen!
Be sure to keep an eye on our Walt Disney World Resort Reopening Information and Updates page to stay in-the-know on any announcements that are made.
