Disney World is reopening THIS WEEKEND — but that doesn’t mean that everyone will get their chance to head back to the parks.
First of all, Disney hasn’t reopened ticket sales for 2020 dates yet, so only those currently holding valid tickets or annual passes, PLUS a Disney Park Pass reservation, are eligible to visit the parks at this time. Beyond that, there are a number of restrictions on travel for international AND domestic visitors. We’re taking a look at all of the states that have a travel advisory into or out of Florida to help you understand how that could impact your ability to visit Disney World!
Quite a few states have some sort of travel advisory — typically a recommended or mandated 14-day quarantine — for those traveling from certain states. In most cases, this would mean that upon returning home from Disney World, a traveler would be required to spend two weeks in quarantine.
This means no leaving your house or accommodations and limiting interaction with others as much as possible. Quarantine could mean an interruption to work schedules, social schedules, and more, and could potentially make a trip to Disney World a much more significant time investment than it would be in normal times.
According to USA Today, the following states have a travel advisory for those going into or out of Florida.
Alaska
Alaska does not have any Florida-specific mandates, but travelers into the state (citizens and visitors) must test negative for COVID-19 prior to arrival or receive a test upon arrival and quarantine until the results are back. Without a test, those flying into Alaska must quarantine for 14 days.
Connecticut
Connecticut currently requires a mandatory 14-day quarantine for any visitor or resident arriving from an area with a transmission rate of 10 positive tests for every 100,000 residents on a seven-day rolling average. Currently, Florida qualifies as one of those regions.
On the other hand, travelers from Connecticut TO Florida are also subjected to a mandatory 14-day quarantine as part of Florida’s New York Tri-state Area advisories. This order exempts any travel for commercial or academic purposes (most travelers to Disney World would be affected). According to the Florida Health Department, travelers under this order are responsible for all costs associated with their isolation or quarantine.
Hawaii
Hawaii doesn’t specifically have a quarantine mandate for travel to and from Florida. Instead, all arriving passengers (visitors and citizens) must quarantine for 14-days upon arrival in the state. Starting August 1st, travelers who test negative within 72 hours before their flight to Hawaii are exempt from quarantine.
Breaking quarantine is punishable by a $5,000 fine and/or up-to a year of imprisonment.
Illinois
Illinois as a whole does not currently have any travel mandates, but the city of Chicago DOES. Travelers entering Chicago from Florida must quarantine for 14 days or be subject to fines.
Kansas
Travel from Kansas to Florida is not restricted, but the reverse has some advisories. Anyone who has been in Florida any day on or after June 29th must quarantine for 14-days upon arrival in Kansas. Those hoping to head to Disney World from Kansas won’t have trouble getting there but will have some extra time on their hands when they return home.
Maine
Like Alaska, Maine has a quarantine order with an option to accommodate testing. Those entering Maine from another state, including Florida, must either test negative or receive a test upon arrival and quarantine until they receive results. Without a test, quarantine is mandated for 14 days.
Maryland
Maryland does not have any required measures but does have a strong suggestion. In general, Maryland residents are encouraged NOT to travel out of the state unless it is absolutely necessary.
Those who DO travel out of the state are recommended to self-quarantine for 14-days upon their return — but it’s not mandated.
Massachusetts
All travelers entering from another state must self-quarantine for 14-days upon arrival at this time, with some exceptions for essential workers.
New Hampshire
Just like Massachusetts, all travelers entering New Hampshire from another state must self-quarantine for 14-days upon arrival at this time, with some exceptions.
New Jersey
New Jersey is another state included in the New York Tri-state Area advisories. Travelers coming from Florida (and other high-transmission states) must quarantine for 14-days upon arrival in New Jersey.
The state is also affected by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ mandatory quarantine for those arriving from the tri-state area. To travel to Disney World from one of the three states in the tri-state area, you would need to bookend your trip with 14-days of quarantine at the start AND the finish.
New Mexico
Travelers entering New Mexico from out of state are required to self-quarantine for 14 days upon arrival.
New York
Like New Jersey, travel both ways between New York and Florida is currently under advisory with 14-day mandatory quarantines in place each way by the respective governors.
Pennsylvania
Though Pennsylvania does not have any mandatory quarantine in place, there is a recommended 14-day quarantine upon arrival from Florida.
Rhode Island
Like much of the New England area, Rhode Island has some mandates too. Travelers entering the state from any high-risk state, including Florida, must produce proof of a negative test within 72 hours of arrival or quarantine for 14 days.
Vermont
Travelers entering Vermont from another state must self-quarantine for 14 days upon arrival.
Wisconsin
Wisconsin has deferred some health decisions to community leaders. For certain counties, residents who have traveled outside their local community in the past 14 days may have to self-quarantine for two weeks upon their return.
And there you have it! Those are all the states with specific travel advisories impacting Florida travel at the time of writing.
Remember, in many states (including some not on this list) out-of-state travel is currently discouraged and considered a risky activity at this stage in the current health crisis. This information is also constantly changing so check in with your local government and health department to make sure you have the most up-to-date information for YOUR area before you travel!
