Occasionally we find some SUPER cool new AR tech that catches our eye. Recently, we’ve found out how we might use the force in an AR environment and we’ve even seen Disney AR in practice with the Play Disney Parks app AR Mickey message!
Today, we spotted a way that Disney might use augmented reality to bring YOUR doodles to life!
Disney filed a fun patent for “deformable-surface tracking based augmented reality image generation;” that’s a really fancy way of saying AR image creation based on an alterable subject! The patent mostly speaks to the use of AR with synced coloring pages. Take, for instance, this colored-in coloring page of an elephant.
With this new invention, a kid (or grown-up!) could color on the page and then use an application on their phone to scan the page. The image would then come to life in 3D on the page — WITH your personal color and drawing choices! WOAH! If you draw flowers on the 2D elephant’s trunk, the 3D elephant will have them too!
This is actually super similar to the AR Mickey some guests got earlier this year, except it’s customizable. Disney’s constantly surprising us with technology that seems too futuristic to be real — but here it is! As always, you can keep an eye on DFB to see ALL the coolest new Disney tech.
