After the longest closure in Disney World history, the parks have now reopened to guests.
Upon reopening, the parks implemented a number of new safety measures for the health of both guests and Cast Members. These changes include reduced park capacity, Disney Park Pass reservations required for entry, face masks required for all Cast Members and guests age two and older, social distancing measures, and more.
But, despite the precautions Disney has put in place, there have still been concerns raised over the reopening of the parks. These worries have been amplified given the rising case numbers in Florida, which have led the state to roll back some reopenings as we saw with the shuttering of bars back in June.
Given the ever-evolving nature of the situation, we wanted to know how our readers feel about heading to Disney World with their families. So, we asked our Instagram followers, “Would you feel comfortable bringing your kids to Disney World right now?”
And our readers were quick to send in their responses! Of the first 708 people who responded, 283 said yes, they would bring their kids to Disney World right now, and 425 said no. Here’s a visual breakdown of the responses!
Let’s take a closer look at some of the common reasons our readers gave behind their answers.
“Yes, I would take my kids to Disney World right now.”
Of our readers who responded, 40% said yes, they would take their kids to Disney World right now.
Several people mentioned that they have been impressed by the amount of health and safety precautions Disney is taking. “Yes, I trust Disney is doing the right things and I can add extra protection for my child.” Some readers also called out specific safety measures that made them feel more secure, like required masks and social distancing measures.
Other readers also pointed out that they would feel safer traveling to Disney World than other places — whether on vacation or day-to-day activities. “Yes, I’m sure it’s safer at Disney than a grocery store. They don’t mess around.”
Have you seen the recent updates to the mask policy at Disney World?
“No, I would not take my kids to Disney World right now.”
On the other hand, 60% said no, they wouldn’t take their kids to Disney World right now.
Many people in this group mentioned the increased number of cases in the state, and some also pointed out that while the parks are taking precautions, other places around the area aren’t as diligent. “Not right now with all the cases in Florida. I’d feel safe in the park, but not getting there.”
Others also added that the temporary suspension of some of the entertainment around the parks would make the trip less fun for their children. “Nope and they don’t want to go right now anyway since character meets and fireworks aren’t happening.”
Some were concerned for children who had preexisting conditions or were immunocomprimised. “No. My son has severe asthma.”
And for some, while the new precautions do make them feel safer, they’re worried that the kiddos could struggle with them. “I feel safe but my son is three and won’t keep his mask on so we rescheduled.”
We even had several followers note that they would feel safe going personally, but they wouldn’t be comfortable bringing their kids in the current situation.
We’ve spent lots of time wearing face masks in Disney World — here are the most comfortable ones we’ve found!
So, while a number of our readers said they would bring their kids to Disney World right now, the majority said they are holding off for the moment. We’ll continue to head out to the parks to see how things are progressing — so be sure to stay tuned for more coverage of the reopened parks so you can make the right decision for your family!
