After 51 matches in 35 days at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, the MLS is Back Tournament concluded last night with a 2-1 victory by the Portland Timbers over Orlando City SC. The tournament marked the restart of the league’s milestone 25th season and a return of professional sports, bringing brought approximately 750 players and 500 MLS staff to ESPN Wide World of Sports.
Throughout the tournament, teams trained and practiced on 16 playing fields around ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. Without spectators in attendance, all of the tournament matches were broadcast both nationally and internationally with enhanced technology that helped bring fans closer to ESPN Wide World of Sports and the game they love.
The tournament was staged with an emphasis on health and safety, with MLS players and staff following specific medical protocols, including regular testing and health screening. While adhering to these guidelines, the players spent their time outside of practices and games enjoying the Walt Disney World Golf Courses and unwinding poolside at the Walt Disney World Swan & Dolphin Hotel. The Portland Timbers even celebrated their tournament victory last night by jumping into the pool with the trophy!
