A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…there was a The Star Wars Holiday Special. This special was dreamt up by some folks at Lucasfilm after partaking in a few too many spiked eggnogs.
At least, that’s our working theory behind how this kitschy Christmas special came to be! The Star Wars Holiday Special originally aired on CBS in 1978 and went on to become a cult-classic given the absurdity of this 2-hour long variety show. Do you guys remember this thing?!
Now Disney has just shared with USA Today a brand new LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special will be coming out on November 17th! Disney+ subscribers will be able to watch Rey, Finn, and Poe Dameron celebrate Life Day, a holiday that was started on the Wookiee planet of Kashyyyk. This plated was also featured in the original 1978 Christmas special.
“We wanted to give a wink and a nod to the original,” executive producer Josh Rimes told USA Today. He also stated the new LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special will last 45-minutes and pay tribute to other Christmas classics including, It’s a Wonderful Life, Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Christmas Vacation, and more!
Rimes also teased Emperor Palpatine, Vader, and Kylo Ren will get to hang out together in the LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special — just when we didn’t think 2020 could get any stranger! We can’t wait to throw on some Star Wars ugly Christmas sweaters and tune in!
Three new holiday celebrations may be coming to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland and Disney World! Click here to learn more!
