Obviously, we get excited about new Disney movies, particularly new animated features because that’s what so many of us were raised on. Unfortunately, 2020 hasn’t been kind to the movie industry, with many upcoming movies getting delayed.
One of those delayed films is Raya and the Last Dragon, which was originally supposed to release this fall. Instead, Disney pushed its release date back to March 12, 2021.
Hopefully, the waiting will be worth it, and in the meantime, at least that gives us plenty of time to learn more about the movie. Raya and the Last Dragon is about a warrior named Raya who is seeking out the last dragon, which already sounds pretty epic. Even more awesome is that the movie is the first Disney film to take inspiration from Southeast Asian cultures!
Although details about the movie have been slim to none, we finally have a first look at Raya and the Last Dragon, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly. And look at how beautiful that image is!
Even more exciting is that we now know that Raya is voiced by Kelly Marie Tran, who we loved as Rose Tico in the Star Wars sequel trilogy. Tran will be the first Southeast Asian actress to lead a Disney film — isn’t that amazing? This movie is a series of firsts for Disney, and we are here for it!
So although Raya and the Last Dragon did get delayed until next year, we’re pretty sure it will totally be worth the wait. We can’t wait to learn more about it in the months to come.
