Got a special place in your heart for Experiment 626 (a.k.a. Stitch)?
We’ve found lots of fun Stitch merchandise recently — everything from a Stitch hat to a Stitch cooler! As we were walking around Magic Kingdom recently, we noticed something missing from a spot in Tomorrowland where we used to be able to find our alien pal. It looks like Stitch has truly left the building!
Several years ago a Stitch-themed attraction, Stitch’s Great Escape, opened in Tomorrowland, replacing ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter. Stitch’s Great Escape eventually transitioned to a seasonal operation schedule around 2016. For a while, part of the building was used as a Stitch meet n’ greet location called Stitch’s Alien Encounter Character Greeting!
Stitch’s Great Escape had been temporarily closed for quite some time, but we recently shared the news that Stitch’s Great Escape would in fact be permanently closed. Now it seems like we’ve definitely said aloha (goodbye this time, not hello) to Stitch at this Tomorrowland spot. When we walked through Magic Kingdom recently we noticed that the entire Stitch sign in front of the former attraction spot has been removed.
You can see the entry doors to the attraction just past the large grey container in front, and you can even see the fan that used to be near the sign still hanging, but the sign itself is gone.
Looks like we truly have seen the end of Stitch at this location for now.
If you’re a big fan of the mischievous experiment, don’t worry — we spotted Stitch greeting guests in Tomorrowland in another spot, so just keep your eyes open for him! The removal of the sign does leave us wondering what will come into this spot in the future? We hope it’ll be something fresh and exciting to add to Tomorrowland.
