There are certain subjects that most of us should never discuss with our friends: politics, religion, and negative opinions about Disney. Well, today we are going to break down one those barriers and air some of our dirty Disney laundry with a series of unpopular opinions that should never otherwise be admitted to out loud.
There are some things I love that I probably shouldn’t, and others that I am just not that into. Get ready to be offended as we dive into part one of A Series of Unpopular Opinions.
Figment is weird.
Kathy Werling, you might want to avert your eyes for this one. I know many of you have a connection with Figment that transcends time and space, but for me, I don’t get it. Maybe at one point this whole concept made sense, but what remains is no happy little accident, Bob Ross.
The last time we were in Epcot, we jumped onto Journey into Imagination with Figment while waiting for a friend to arrive, and it left me confused. What the actual is going on there?
I don’t understand popcorn buckets.
Everyone loves a popcorn bucket; they collect them and they even sell out in the parks when a new design comes in, but when I am standing there, struggling to keep everything sorted in my nicely curated backpack, I have questions about the logistics of said buckets.
Firstly, how much popcorn can you actually eat to make these worthwhile? Secondly, how do you carry them without them always being in the way and popcorn going everywhere?
Admittedly, it might just be me as I am a messy popcorn eater, it gets in my teeth and I get really thirsty; it’s not pretty. All of a sudden, I feel like an uncomfortable four-year-old having a tantrum; it’s quite a sight that should be reserved for the darkness of a movie theatre.
I don’t like the monorail.
Yep, I said it.
It’s always sticky.
I am just going to put that out there in my own defense before being fed to the wolves. Everything on the monorail is always sticky. And with what exactly? No one knows; that is part of the problem.
I am a Disney railroad girl myself, and apart from the odd commute from Downtown Disney over to Tomorrowland in Disneyland, I avoid the monorails with pleasure.
The Jungle Cruise is one of the most skippable rides in the parks.
Now, I like it. In fact, I think of it fondly and enjoy it when we do go on it. But in general, Jungle Cruise is one of those once-every-few-visits attractions that no one is desperate to tick off every time.
I think it might be because it presents as less of a ride and more of a performance. The whole experience is hinged on the ability of your Skipper to keep everyone entertained. Some of them are incredible and you never want the ride to end; others, well, let’s just say it can be hit-and-miss.
This is one attraction that I am actually hoping the upcoming feature film will help give a bit more of an identity in the parks. Perhaps it will inspire a few tweaks to make this ride a bit more exciting and dynamic, separately from the Skipper performances.
I love the Tiki Room.
See, it’s not all negative!
I have an unnatural obsession with the Enchanted Tiki Room and will often put the music on in the car and just randomly sing along.
All the birds sing words and the flowers croon…
How can you not love this? For starters, it is air-conditioned and conveniently near the Dole Whip, so it makes for the perfect place to have a cold treat and then enjoy the cool, dark atmosphere once inside.
Secondly, they are singing birds that aren’t going to flap their wings in your face or drop unpleasantness on you from above. What isn’t to love?
