New Ad Calls on Governor Newsom to Reopen Disneyland and Other California Theme Parks

We’ve got our Retro Disneyland Ears, Disneyland tumbler, and we’re ready to go to the happiest place on earth. There’s just one problem…it’s closed.

Disneyland closed about 6 months ago. Downtown Disney has reopened but Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park remain closed. While an initial reopening date for the parks was set, it was thereafter delayed, and a new reopening date has yet to be announced. But, Disney officials and others are working hard to push California’s governor to reopen the theme parks.

According to The Orange County Register, a new commercial that was recently released also calls on Governor Newsom “to reopen Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm, and other California theme parks.” This “Reopen Theme Parks” internet ad “will be seen by web users in the Southern California area.”

The commercial was released by “the Reopen O.C. Now coalition of Anaheim, Buena Park and Garden Grove city leaders and the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce.” It encourages viewers to “Tell Gov. Newsom to help Anaheim get back to work…Let’s reopen theme parks and reawaken our region.”

Currently, California’s theme parks are awaiting guidelines from the State of California in order to reopen. Governor Newsom had previously stated that updates regarding theme park guidelines were “forthcoming.” Recently, however, a trade association representing Disneyland and other theme parks indicated that the guidance is not forthcoming, and specifically called on Governor Newsom to reopen the theme parks.

Reopen O.C. Now seems to be of a similar opinion. According to statement from them, “The State of California has issued health care guidelines to allow for the reopening of virtually every aspect of life and business, except theme parks,” which means that these locations, which are “responsible for close to 100,000 jobs in Southern California” can’t reopen or finalize their plans to do so.

We’ve spotted several updates near Disneyland recently that show Disney is preparing for when the parks can reopen, and Disney executives have made a strong case for Disneyland to reopen soon. But Disneyland Resort’s President, Ken Potrock, has stated that California’s lack of guidelines for theme park reopenings has put them “in limbo.”

Currently, reservations at Disneyland Resort hotels have been canceled through early October. We’re keeping our eyes out for more news related to Disneyland’s reopening, so be sure to come back for more updates.
