Do you know ‘Olu Mel? If not, we’re going to help you say “Aloha!” to this little one…
‘Olu Mel might be familiar to you if you’ve ever visited Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa. This little sea turtle is a friend to Mickey and Duffy… but you don’t have to go to to Hawaii to get to know this pal, because Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort in Disney World is celebrating him with limited-time treats and merchandise right now!
In fact, he is currently being given a cute cupcake tribute at Capt. Cook’s.
The ‘Olu Mel Cupcake is a chocolate cupcake base filled with coconut mousse and topped with a white chocolate ‘Olu (why, HELLO there!) and crispy candy pearls. Aaaand, if you look really close, you just might also find…
… HIDDEN MICKEYS! (Hint: check for the green pearls!)
Yep. Pretty darn adorable.

But we’re going to chat about flavor… because this cupcake is as tasty as it is colorful and cute! The coconut mousse filling tucked inside the moist chocolate cake is the absolute highlight.
The brightly colored icing doesn’t really offer an extra flavor component with the color — it’s just your basic, super sweet, buttercream to let that coconut mousse shine. (As a side note, the buttercream was wonderfully fresh.) And those little white chocolates and accents (such as the fondant-like flower) provide extra texture as well as cheerful decorations!
A couple of notes for you, though! While the ‘Olu Mel event is taking place at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort TODAY, we’re not sure how long this little guy will be swimmin’ around Captain Cook’s cupcake case, so if you see one in the refrigerated case, grab it! And here’s an extra tip: We did NOT see the ‘Olu Mel Cupcake listed on Mobile Order. Sooo… we simply placed our Mobile Order for the Aloha Cupcake — which is still available — and asked that it be switched for the ‘Olu Mel, and it was no problem, since both are the same price of $5.99.

So, if you happen to find yourself at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, be sure to welcome ‘Olu with a hearty “Aloha!”
