Disney’s Latest Invention Might Be The CREEPIEST Thing You See This Halloween Season

Y’all want to see something WILD?

Sorry, sorry, maybe we should have given you a little more warning before we showed you pure nightmare fuel on a plain old Friday morning. But honestly, we gotta talk about Disney’s new robot.

As you’re probably aware, Disney is known for pushing the boundaries of robotics and animatronic developments. Recently, they went so far as to develop the free-flying stuntronic to do performative acrobatics in the air. Wow.

Well, this latest robot is pretty cool too — but also 10,000 times more horrifying. Perfect for Halloween, we guess. Basically, Walt Disney Imagineers along with a team of researchers have developed a robot that realistically replicates the barely-perceptible head and eye movements of a human being.

Up to this point, robots have had the ability to focus on a person speaking to them, but once they do their eyes sort of rest in the spot they focused on. Real people don’t have such a static way of looking at each other. Instead, our eyes slightly dart around as we perceive each other, and distractions in the environment momentarily pull our gaze.

This bot can do just that. You’ll notice slight variations in the gaze pattern and if noise is made elsewhere in the environment, the eyes will dart over to check out the source before returning to the subject. The head is even designed to move up and down slightly in line with “breathing.”

Okay, yes, it’s super cool but we really can’t get over the way it looks. This is definitely an invention that could benefit from another of Disneys’ recent breakthroughs – robot skin. PLEASE, Disney, put some robot skin on this skinless nightmare.

This kind of tech is something we might see employed in the Disney theme parks in the future. Can you imagine standing face to face with a robot as realistic as this one? Hopefully, we won’t be able to see its entire set of teeth in the final version!
