Disney has continued to make major changes company-wide with its massive amount of layoffs and new health and safety regulations.
Although we’ve received updates on Avengers Campus, Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, and Splash Mountain’s The Princess and the Frog redesign, Disney has also released details on how it will be changing its operations company-wide.
During the IAAPA Expo today, the Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products Chairman Josh D’Amaro stated that Disney will be adding the fifth key of “Inclusion” to its company and business values. The fifth key will be adding to the existing values of “Safety, Courtesy, Show, and Efficiency.” We previously shared the fifth key was being added into Disney’s operational guidelines for all Cast Members, but D’Amaro stated that this will go one step further than that and, “have a huge impact across the Company.”
Historically, the Keys have been listed in order of importance to the guest experience. In the diagram shown, the new, fifth key was placed at the end but D’Amaro noted that inclusivity will actually be encouraged through all the keys. He stated, “We believe that a truly inclusive environment is critical to fostering ideas from all people to help us grow, innovate, and create the best stories possible. Inclusion would not only serve as its own key, but it will be incorporated into all the other four keys.”
Cast Members will be expected to follow these values as D’Amaro also said that, “We intend for every single Cast Member around the world to know these keys, and what they stand for, and pass them along to each new generation of Cast Members for years to come. This represents transformative cultural change.”
On top of the new key, Disney is also going to be incorporating more black talent into its businesses by deepening its commitment to historically black colleges and universities.
