Headed to Orlando this coming week to enjoy some of your favorite attractions and snacks (and maybe a taste of EPCOT’s Festival of the Holidays)?

Well, one thing you’ll want to be aware of and plan for is the weather! And, while Florida is typically VERY warm for most of the year, things are actually looking a bit different for this next week. It seems Elsa is brining just a touch of winter weather to the Sunshine State!

Weather Forecast

Generally, it looks like some rain is projected for early next week that will bring much cooler weather. Let’s take a look at next week’s weather forecast day by day so you know what to expect.

November 29th

According to Weather.com, from The Weather Channel, Sunday, November 29th, it’s expected that it will be cloudy early, with some scattered thunderstorms developing later in the day. The chance of rain is actually 40% in the day, and goes up to 50% at night, so you should definitely prepare for some wet weather.

The low temperature at night one the 29th is what Floridians consider FULL ON winter — 68 degrees! So, if you’ll be out and about at the parks or Disney Springs towards the evening, you may want to bring a jacket!

November 30th

On November 30th, we see a pretty dramatic drop in temperature! The high for the day is expected to be around 73 degrees, with a high chance of rain — all the way at 60%.

The low temperature expected, however, is where things really get wintry! The forecast shows a projected low of 48 degrees! Floridians: you’ve been warned — bring out those parkas! Essentially, it looks like the rain projected for Saturday and Sunday is part of a cold front that will bring much cooler temperatures throughout the rest of the week.

December 1st

When we reach December 1st, we start to see some lower temperatures expected — down in the 50s and even 40s!

The rain chances also seem to lower to just 10%, although it looks like there may be a mix of sunshine and clouds throughout the day.

December 2nd

On December 2nd, slightly higher temperatures are projected for the day, but not too much higher. It looks like those 80 degree days may be on pause as the high is only expected to be 64 degrees!

But, rain chances are low at just 10% and it dos look like the day is expected to be mainly sunny. Sounds like it’ll be an incredibly nice day to spend some time outdoors.

December 3rd

On December 3rd, the high increases just slightly, but still is expected to remain in the 60s.

The rain chances increase on Thursday, December 3rd, however, up to 30% in the evening and there is the possibility that a few showers will develop later in the night.

December 4th

On Friday, December 4th, rain chances lower again but partly cloudy skies are expected.

Temperatures, however, are still projected to remain low — with a high of 65 degrees and low of 49 degrees.

December 5th

Finally, on Saturday, December 5th, the temperatures are expected to remain mostly the same, with highs in the 60s and lows in the 40s.

The rain chances are pretty low though, at just 10% during the day and 0% at night, and mostly sunny skies are projected for the day.

Here’s a full overview of the week from The Weather Channel, where you can clearly see those temperatures dropping from a high of 80 degrees on Sunday the 29th to a high of just 62 degrees on Saturday the 5th.

…and WESH 2 News are also showing similar forecasts…

…with rain expected on Sunday and Monday followed by a drop in temperatures.

WESH 2 News specifically noted that temperatures may even be a bit colder than the projected numbers depending on how strong the cold front actually gets.

We are pulling our winter boots, scarfs, gloves, beanies, and cute Disney sweaters out of our closets as we speak! You don’t always get a lot of chances to wear winter clothes in Florida, so this might be our chance to do so!

BUT, Weather Can Change

One thing to keep in mind is that these are only projections and forecasts for next week. The weather is constantly changing in Florida. You may look out and see a sunny day only to be surprised by thunder storms in the afternoon.

So, whether you’re planning on heading to Disney World next week or a month from now, it’s important to look at the weather in advance of your trip, but also keep checking it every day throughout your trip so you know what to expect and so you can see if things have changed. If this cold front isn’t as strong as expected, or (on the flip side) is stronger than expected, we could see things change for next week, so be sure to stay updated.

How Should You Plan?

If you are headed to Disney World next week, we’ve got a few tips in terms of how you should plan for this possible change in weather.

Come Prepared!

Our first piece of advice is to come prepared for everything! There is some rain forecasted for next week, particularly on those first few days. Rain chances go down as the week progresses, but you never know if that could change.

We say be prepared for ALL of it. Pack some umbrellas and ponchos for your trip in case you are hit with rain (you likely will be Sunday and Monday). And you’ll also want to pack some sweaters, closed-toed shoes, beanies, and other clothes that you can layer up for the rest of the week since much colder temperatures are projected. Since the weather is expected to get up into the 60s some days though, you’re probably best off bringing clothes that you can layer on or take off so you can adjust as the weather gets colder or warmer throughout the day.

Don’t Panic

If you forget to bring an umbrella or start to feel like your layers aren’t enough, don’t panic! Disney typically has a lot of ponchos, rain jackets, and umbrellas for sale, as well as sweaters and other gear to keep you warm.

You could also pop over to a nearby Target, Walmart, or other store or shopping mall (there are LOTS in Orlando) to stock up on warm socks, shoes, or whatever else you may need!

Bring Multiple Masks

The weather is also something you want to think about when it comes to coronavirus precautions. If it rains and your mask gets wet, that’s no good. You’ll also just want to have multiple masks in case one gets uncomfortable during the day, falls on the floor, or you just feel better changing it.

So, be sure to pack multiple masks to use throughout your trip, and remember to bring them in your bag to the parks. If you forget to bring multiple masks, remember that Disney has a variety of cloth face masks available that you could purchase as well, but they have recently gone up in price in the parks so that’s something you’ll want to keep in mind.

Changes in Attractions and Entertainment

Rain also means changes in entertainment and attractions. If there is rain, you may see the traditional holiday cavalcades in the park stopped, and the rainy day cavalcades come out instead.

So, if you had your heart set on seeing Max driving around in his cool, candy car, be aware that the cavalcade situation could change significantly if it is a rainy day.

And, while some attractions may remain open during the rain, some outdoor attractions may close if there is really bad weather or lightning within 10 miles of the parks. This includes some favorite attractions like Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Test Track, and Jungle Cruise.

So, be sure to download the My Disney Experience app so you can check if an attraction is temporarily closed before you walk all the way over to it in the rain.

Safety Considerations

Aside from bringing multiple masks, you’ll also want to consider how the weather may change your plans in terms of the safety precautions you’re taking in light of the pandemic. If you feel safer eating outdoors (at spots like the newly reopened Woody’s Lunch Box), that may be much more pleasant to do when temperatures get a bit cooler, but you will want to make sure you’ve brought enough sweaters to keep you warm.

On the flip side, if eating in the cold is not your thing OR if you’ll be there on a day where it is expected to rain a lot, consider whether you feel comfortable eating indoors or if you need to scope out some spots with lots of overhead cover (like Nomad Lounge in Disney’s Animal Kingdom) so you can eat or even just relax outdoors without getting soaked.

With the rain and cooler temperatures, and potentially larger crowds due to the holidays approaching, you’ll also want to think about how to maintain social distancing, especially if you find yourself in the middle of a downpour.

You’ll want to keep an eye on the sky for any sudden changes in weather, be aware of what indoor attractions you’re next to that you could hop into quickly to escape the rain, and stay calm!

Our most important piece of advice for dealing with weather at Disney World would be to be prepared but also be flexible! Changes in weather may mean changes in what attractions you may be able to ride that day or characters you may be able to see. It’s important to be flexible in order to make sure that you still have a magical, fun trip!
