Here Are the Construction Projects Going On Behind the Closed Disneyland Resort Gates!

Disneyland has been closed for almost eight months now and it may remain closed for a while.

Disneyland Gate

Still, that doesn’t mean that it’s a total ghost town behind the gate. With no guests in the park, crews can work on a bunch of different construction projects without having to keep out of guest areas — and work they are.

According to the Orange County Register, a ton of projects are still underway in Disneyland and Disney California Adventure, so let’s check in on some of the latest projects!

Disneyland

Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway

OCR notes that Disney was recently issued a building permit for a $7.5 million attraction building complete with offices, restrooms, and employee break rooms.

At this time, vertical construction has begun in Mickey’s Toontown and the mountain range around the edge of the land has been removed in some areas to make way for construction. The attraction is set to open sometime in 2023.

Haunted Mansion

Prior to the closures, Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion was under construction with refurbishments on the interior and exterior of the attraction.

Snow White’s Scary Adventures

One of Disneyland’s opening day attractions has been closed for significant work since before the closures too. Snow White’s Scary Adventures is receiving some touch-ups and new effects, some of which are with the hope of making the attraction a little less scary.

According to OCR, work continues on both the interior and exterior of the attraction.

King Arthur Carrousel

In fact, you might remember that it was more than JUST Snow White’s Scary Adventures all covered up in Fantasyland. King Arthur Carrousel has also been surrounded by construction scrims since prior to the closure.

The work is to give this historic attraction a new canopy and some other TLC.

Indiana Jones Adventure

A permit was filed late last year that indicated some work on Indiana Jones Adventure including replacing a plank bridge and steel structure in the show set of the ride.

We’re not sure when this refurbishment was set to take place, but Disney could be working on it now.

Mickey’s House

OCR has noted that Mickey’s House got a $115,000 reroofing since the closures. You might remember scaffolding around the Mouse’s House from prior to the closures.

Space Mountain

At the start of the closures, work was underway on a $1.1 million emergency exit staircase for Space Mountain.

So, as you can see, there are LOTS of goings-ons in Disneyland right now! We’re pretty excited to see the progress for ourselves one day, but in the meantime, we’ll have to settle for construction reports.
