Earlier this week, Disney confirmed that Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure will be opening in EPCOT in 2021!

We received some more exciting updates today during “EPCOT — The Magic of Possibility” under the D23 Fantastic Worlds Celebration!

They shared that this attraction was designed specifically to match the environment of EPCOT’s France Pavilion. Roger Gould, a creative director with Pixar, described it as “Ratatouille’s Paris,” rather than recreating an “authentic” Paris. 

The marquee of the attraction is very unique and is meant to begin the transition from “authentic” Paris, to a more animated, Ratatouille-style Paris. It was carved by a model maker at Pixar Studios and recreated in full scale by Disney Imagineers.

This will be a family-friendly experience as guests go on an exciting adventure through the kitchen, just as Remy would, in a trackless vehicle! The ride will incorporate 3D animated elements along with 3D props and physical elements, too!

The attraction will alter our view of the world, as we transition to a rat’s eye view which makes everything feel larger than life! Imagineers said a lot of time and attention was spent making the perspective feel just right so you really see the world through Remy’s eyes.

Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure can also be found in Disneyland Paris, but EPCOT will feature some unique elements. Within the attraction, Chef Gusteau’s sign will come to life and speak to riders in both French and English, making it the first bilingual show in Disney World! Out of guest demand in Paris, the original ride was written to be in both French and English so more guests could follow along, and Imagineers made a conscious choice to carry that over to the Disney World version as well.

This ride will allow guests to grow their bond with Remy as they see the world from his perspective, through hectic and exhilarating scenes! Imagineers noted seeing Remy’s own kitchen at the end of the film and wanted to explore what taking a tour around that space would be like as a rat. Linguine and other characters from the film are present and evil Chef Skinner is still around trying to catch Remy at every turn.

Remy will also be getting his very own fountain! The France pavilion will have a new park with benches, a news kiosk, and the Crêperie we’ve known about for a while now! Imagineers noted that the restaurant at the end of the Disneyland Paris version of the ride is a crucial element to the design, so EPCOT needed a real food element as well in the form of the Crêperie. At its core, the ride is about experiencing food, much like Remy does, so having that way for guests to interact with food after experiencing the ride was paramount.
