REVIEW: Cheshire Cat Tail at Magic Kingdom

I have been hearing wonderful things about the Cheshire Cat Tail that’s available at the Cheshire Café in Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World for years. Every time I visit Magic Kingdom, there is either a gigantic line or the Cheshire Café is not open for one reason or another. The photo above was taken prior to the closure

It just so happens that this sweet snack spot near the Mad Tea Party attraction in Fantasyland is one of the quick service dining locations at Magic Kingdom that has not re-opened since the Magic Kingdom originally closed earlier this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Because of that, I wasn’t imagining that I would get to try the Cheshire Cat Tail anytime soon.

Much to my surprise, while I was placing a Mobile Order for lunch at Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Café, I happened to scroll down far enough to see the desserts that were available. Lo and behold – the Cheshire Cat Tail was there! I must admit that I was probably a little bit more excited than anyone should ever be about a special pastry however it is what it is, ahem.

Whenever I’m on a Disney vacation, I can easily be convinced to eat dessert first, but my grilled chicken sandwich was looking pretty fantastic so I decided to behave and eat my lunch first.

Now I also have to tell you I had high expectations of this Cheshire Cat Tail going into it. I’ve always thought it was going to have the texture of a freshly baked croissant. I thought it would be light and airy and really soft however it was quite dense and I was really surprised by that; pleasantly surprised! That Cheshire Cat Tail was absolutely amazing.

I’d also wondered if it was going to be so sweet that even I couldn’t eat much more than a bite or two, but it was not. It was absolutely the most perfectly sweet pastry I think I have ever had and worth every single calorie. It tasted like it was baked fresh that morning and drizzled with amazing icing that was sweet but not overly powerful and the amount of drizzle was just right. If it had been any more than just a drizzle, I think it would have been too sweet. I should also mention that there are mini chocolate chips in there too making this little beauty even more amazing.

If you have been wondering about this Cheshire Cat Tail for years as I have, please don’t hesitate to give it a try on your next visit to the Magic Kingdom – you will surely not regret it!
