As COVID-19 Numbers Rise, Leaders in Orange County, FL Encourage People to Stay Home

Florida just recently passed 1 million total positive COVID-19 cases, and it seems that infection rates are on the rise.

We shared recently that a vaccine is likely headed for the state, but with case numbers at their high since earlier this year, health officials are encouraging people to stay home. What does this mean for the state and for vacationers headed to the theme parks? Let’s check out the latest update.

According to an article on WFTV 9, Orange County officials are concerned after seeing a rise in COVID-19 case numbers in the last week. Florida health officials reported 11,355 new cases, which marks the highest number the state has seen since July. 642 of those cases are from residents of Orange County, home to Orlando.

Hospitalizations have been rapidly rising, and health officers are pointing to the Thanksgiving holiday as the cause.

Orange County’s health officer, Dr. Raul Pino, says that he expects to see an increase in deaths as more people end up in the ICU. He encourages people to stay home and not gather with their extended families for Christmas.
