Last week’s Walt Disney Company virtual Investors Day was a whirlwind of information, and honestly, we’re still processing everything we heard!
We got news from the studios of Star Wars, Marvel, Disney, Pixar, and National Geographic, not to mention updates on streaming for Hulu and Star. It was A LOT to take in, but we’re breaking down the 5 BIGGEST news bombs of the night — the things that shocked and surprised us the most!
5. Disney Princess TV Shows
Not just one, but TWO Disney princesses are getting their own TV shows on Disney+! Tiana, based on the heroine from Princess and the Frog will be coming to the streaming platform in 2022. Moana: The Series will be launching in 2023!
Both shows will be long-form musical comedy series, which means tons of great songs! In addition to the two princess shows, Disney also announced new shows centered around Baymax from Big Hero 6 and Zootopia.

4. Lightyear
We all know the Space Ranger that is most definitely a toy (even though it took him a while to accept it) voiced by Tim Allen. But, did you ever wonder who that toy was modeled after? Buzz Lightyear gets his own story in the upcoming film Lightyear — debuting on June 17th, 2022.
Chris Evans (Yes, Captain America!!) will be voicing Buzz in the movie. He clarified on Twitter that “This is the origin story of the human Buzz Lightyear that the toy is based on.” We were NOT expecting this movie announcement, but that just made us all the more excited to hear about it for the first time!

This is definitely a film we’ll be keeping an eye on — we’re anxious to hear more!

3. So. Much. Marvel. News.
We heard early on in the broadcast that there would be 10 new Marvel series, 10 new Star Wars series, 15 other Disney series, and 15 features (and a partridge in a pear tree ), but we didn’t fully grasp what that meant until Disney started listing out all of these new shows! Right off the bat, we got a new trailer for WandaVision, the previously announced series coming to Disney+ on January 15th, 2021.

We also got a trailer for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, coming to Disney+ exclusively on March 19th.

After that trailer, it was a barrage of announcements. We got details on shows we’d previously heard announced, as well as learned of several new series and movies. The list included titles like: Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (March 25, 2022), Black Widow (May 7th, 2021), Loki (May 2021), WHAT IF…? (Summer 2021), Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (July 9th, 2021), Ms. Marvel (late 2021), and several others coming in 2022 and beyond (or that don’t yet have dates announced). Because there was SO MUCH announced during this particular presentation, we’ve actually compiled a list of all the trailers and clips for the upcoming Marvel content.
News: Chadwick Boseman Will NOT Be Recast in ‘Black Panther 2’
2. Even MORE Star Wars News
And if you thought the Marvel news was wild, the Star Wars announcements were just as big! During the Lucasfilm presentation, we first got a recap video from this season of The Mandalorian, before they launched into sharing all about two new series that will interlock with the show!
Ahsoka and Rangers of the New Republic will both be happening during the same timeline as The Mandalorian, and all three will culminate in an epic finale. We also got a look at Andor, another original Star Wars series that will stream on Disney+ in 2022.

However, some of the biggest news that made Star Wars fans around the globe rejoice was the announcement that Hayden Christensen will return to play the part of Darth Vader, joining Ewan McGregor in the new series OBI-WAN KENOBI. (Even if you weren’t a fan of Hayden’s Anakin, you gotta love a good throwback, right?)

Other Star Wars media that was announced or had trailers released included the titles: Star Wars: The Bad Batch, Star Wars: Visions, Lando, The Acolyte, and A Droid Story.

1. Disney+ Price Increase
And in first place, simply because it seems to affect the most people, is the fact that Disney+ is getting a small price increase! Starting March 26, 2021, the service will increase its monthly fee from $6.99 to $7.99, or $79.99 annually.
We figured that this might be coming, considering the platform was priced lower compared to its competitors. And with Disney’s plans to roll out 100+ new pieces of media each year, it’s still a pretty good deal!
We were so excited to hear all this BIG news from Disney! We’ve definitely got some new things to add to our “must watch” list soon, so stay tuned as we continue to get more info on all of Disney’s upcoming media!
