Many guests that fly to Disney World travel through the nearby Orlando International Airport.

Recently, Orlando International Airport has undertaken a number of initiatives aimed at increasing the safety of passengers and employees, including new crowd control measures, sanitation technology, and on-site testing.

In light of the recent surge in COVID-19 cases around the country, the CDC has recommended “postponing travel and staying home” during the holiday season. But despite these warnings, Fox 35 reports that Orlando International Airport expects 775,000 travelers to pass through its terminals from mid-December to early January.

The busiest day for Christmas travel departures is expected to be December 27th and the busiest day for New Years travel departures is expected to be January 3rd.

The CEO of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority, Phil Brown, said that even though the current number of passengers is an increase from recent months, travel is still down 50% from this time last year. 

Brown said. “I mean, we’re in a pretty deep hole. Our goal is to gradually bring back the traffic, get back up, and continue to grow and try to reach where we were and then hopefully grow some more.”

Staff said they are making sure everything is clean and that passengers are following CDC guidelines while they are flying. We’ll continue to keep an eye out for any additional updates about travel to the Orlando area.
