NEWS: California’s ICU Capacity Continues to Fall

In the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, breaking news and updates emerge on a daily — and seemingly hourly — basis. It can be overwhelming to keep up with, especially in particularly hard-hit states like California.

Recently, Disneyland’s home state has seen dramatic changes, both for the better and for the worse. Now the latest report is that California’s statewide ICU capacity has fallen to 0%. 

As this latest wave of the pandemic has swept across the entire country (and the world), certain populous states have been hit especially hard…California among them.

In addition to Disneyland and other theme parks remaining closed, restrictions and mandates across the state have increasingly tightened in order to reduce the rate of infections and ease ICU capacity in hospitals.

However, in spite of recent optimistic changes in the right direction, California’s statewide available ICU capacity fell to 0% on Christmas. 

 

 

 

 

 

These numbers were already reported in certain counties, like Los Angeles County, but this is the first time that other counties in the state reported the same capacity drop.

As alarming as that sounds, Governor Gavin Newsom reassured that there are still options, including a 20% “surge capacity” that brings in aid from federal workers and more ICU nurses.
