Walt Disney World began its first new decade not just preparing EPCOT Center, but by preparing for EPCOT. The World needed to change to accommodate the concept of a multi-park resort. The Magic Kingdom had to adapt to keep itself relevant, and make space for guests who were coming to experience the new park. And the way guests experienced the parks since 1955 was set to change as well. Magic Kingdom The most obvious change to the Magic Kingdom was the […]

Soulreleased on Disney+ just a few days ago and we’ve been using all our free time to find our spark!
Soul Photo-Op
The animation in this new Disney/Pixar film is absolutely stellar and learning about the development of the film is a total treat. We’ve already seen a good bit of concept art from the film, but today we spotted MORE behind-the-scenes pics! Take a look!
The first new image shows an early depiction of The Great Before. In early concepts, the architecture of ancient Greece served as the main inspiration for The Great Before. It looks pretty different in the film, huh?
This photo shows a Pixar artist working on the design for Joe Gardner in soul form. You can see from the drawing that they were considering several different iterations before settling on the glow-y Soul Joe we fell in love with.
And perhaps most interesting is this character designer working on the design for The Great Before counselors (A.K.A. Jerry). You can see that to achieve the one-line look of these guides, artists used wire to form the early sculptures of the characters. This also helped with the interesting 2D and 3D effect for these guys. Director Pete Docter said, “When you hold the wires a certain way, it can look flat, and another way, 3-D.”
These images are certainly a very interesting glimpse into the world of Disney/Pixar animators! If you need us, we’ll be watching Soul again and looking forward to upcoming Pixar films like Luca!
