It really is no surprise. runDisney has shared that the 2021 Star Wars Rival Run Weekend has been turned into a virtual event, much like the other runDisney races have been over the past year. This is, of course, due to concerns of events that bring in large crowds and keeping everyone safe.
Disney has decided to offer Guests the opportunity to run the Star Wars Rival Run Weekend races virtually, whether it be around your neighborhood, a local track, etc. Those who choose that option will be given the opportunity to receive a medal for each distance they complete and the option of a race shirt. If you registered for the race previously, you will be receiving an email with instructions on how to proceed before December 18, 2020.
If you don’t want to now run the race virtually, participants who registered through runDisney.com will also have the option of receiving a full refund for the race. Refunds can be expected to be processed within six to eight weeks.
Interestingly enough, it looks like changes are in store for the Star Wars runDisney Weekend, as Disney shared that they will be reimagining the theming of this race weekend for 2022 and will share more information on that at a later date.
As far as future races are concerned, Disney is looking at every aspect of the runDisney experience and they are making decisions with the safety and well-being of the athletes, volunteers, Cast Members and Guests at the forefront of the planning process. At this time, there are no further updates regarding future runDisney events.
