Some of the bars and restaurants in Disney World are still currently closed, including Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto and its outdoor counterpart, Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace.
In addition to the incredible tropical concoctions Trader Sam’s is known for, this spot has also earned a dedicated following thanks to the unique souvenir glasses and tiki mugs several of the drinks are served in. And if you’re missing those gorgeous take-home tiki mugs, we have some great news for you!
Another spot at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort that’s known for serving up solid cocktails is Tambu Lounge. And right now, Tambu Lounge is serving up a specialty drink, the Citrus Surfer, which comes with a collectible Trader Sam’s Tiki Mug!
This specialty release works the same as the releases in Trader Sam’s — you have to buy the drink to get the tiki mug. That’s right, even if you order the mug and ask them to hold the drink, you’ll still be paying the same price! Of course, we had to give it a try to get our tiki fix!
The Citrus Surfer is made with Pyrat XO Reserve Rum, Appleton Estate Reserve Rum, Orgeat (Almond), and Falernum, with a blend of lime, lemon, and grapefruit juices.
And, even though the menu says it’s “served with a souvenir tiki mug,” the drink doesn’t actually come in the mug — it comes in a regular glass (or, you can get it to-go in a plastic cup), and you get the souvenir mug when you pay the bill. Again, this is in line with how Trader Sam’s handled specialty releases also.
The Citrus Surfer is tart, but they added agave to ours last minute which cut the tartness down a bit. As the name suggests, there’s a strong citrus flavor to this drink! The grapefruit also gives it a hint of dryness, so if you prefer your drinks to be on the tart and dry side rather than super sweet, this might be right up your alley!
Okay, we’ve covered the drink, now how about that mug?? Well, take a look at this little beauty!
Just like the drink lived up to the “citrus” in its name, the mug certainly lives up to the “surfer” portion!
If you’re into tiki mugs, you’ll probably want to add this one to your collection. We love the detailed design and the pretty blue and white color scheme!
Yup, fellow Trader Sam’s stans, this one is for you! You can snag the Citrus Surfer drink and souvenir tiki mug for $32 at Tambu Lounge while supplies last. Cheers!
