REVIEW & PHOTOS: EPCOT’s Spice Road Table Has Officially Reopened With a New Menu!

Although Spice Road Table at EPCOT’s Morocco Pavilion reopened with the rest of the park back in the summer, it recently announced it would stop taking reservations as of December 10th and temporarily closed.

And it wasn’t the only thing closed in Morocco — much of the pavilion shut down while Disney took over the pavilion from its previous operators. But today, Spice Road Table was set to reopenand we came to check out some new menu items!

Reservations are no longer available here, so it’s walk-up only, but that’s not a problem as it’s always been fairly easy to get in here. But there are still social distancing markers on the floor in case a line begins to form.

The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating available with both booths and free-standing tables. We like the seating on the patio for that al fresco dining experience.

And this restaurant has plenty of spaces with amazing views! You can sit at a table right next to World Showcase Lagoon! There’s just something so relaxing about sitting next to the water, right? You can see more pictures of the atmosphere in our latest review.

And note that the menu has changed! It’s now a “Lounge” menu, meaning that entrees and desserts have been removed and everything listed is “Mediterranean Small Plates.” It’s an expansion of the restaurant’s previous small bites section.

Mediterranean Small Plates Menu

We chose two new menu items, the Tiropitakia and Spiced Chicken, to start!

Tiropitakia and Spiced Chicken

The Tiropitakia for $9 is Cheese-filled Phyllo with a Cucumber-Tomato Relish — seriously, you had us at “cheese.”

Tiropitakia

And just look at that perfectly flaky Phyllo!  It almost reminded us of crab rangoon when we bit into it — it was VERY cheesy, creamy, and buttery, like YUM.  The Tomato and Cucumber relish was refreshing, especially with the addition of mint.

Tiropitakia

The Spiced Chicken for $11 is Chicken with Ras el Hanout spice and Mint Yogurt. These weren’t spicy spices, though, but warm spices, like hints of cinnamon. And the pita had a great garlic flavor to it — it even reminded us of the wonderful Naan bread from Sanaa at Animal Kingdom Lodge.

Spiced Chicken

The chicken itself was moist and not overdone. The mint in the yogurt was surprisingly strong, but we enjoyed it! We also felt that the portion sizes of these small plates were PERFECT.

But then we decided to have dessert. Now there’s no dessert section on the menu, but there is a Dessert Platter for $9 with “assorted Moroccan pastries.” Okay, we’re in! We got a selection of three desserts, including an Almond Marzipan Cookie, Baklava, and a spiced cake called Karydopita. Let’s dig in!

Spice Road Table Dessert Platter

The Karydopita was super light and moist, almost like it was a little wet. It’s a spiced cake drenched in honey syrup.

Karydopita

Although there are walnuts on top, there are walnuts inside the cake, too. This was super yummy and we would totally eat this again. Also, this is a house specialty and it’s only available here!

Karydopita

The Baklava is a traditional baklava with walnuts, and this piece was drizzled with chocolate.

Baklava

As you can tell from the photos, it was very flaky and buttery. It was also very sweet, so this is a dessert for those of you with a sweet tooth!

Baklava

Finally, there was a Marzipan Cookie, and we’ll be honest — it didn’t compare to the other two desserts at all.

Marzipan Cookie

It was soft and chewy, so the texture was good. It was also just semi-sweet, and to us, it tasted a lot like almond paste, but if that’s your thing, you’ll love it.

Marzipan Cookie

A Cast Member told us the dessert platter cookie would rotate out from time to time, although the Karydopita and Baklava would remain. Considering that the cookie was our least favorite part of the meal, we’d be curious to see what it gets switched out to eventually. The last time we dined here, we had to ask ourselves why we don’t go more often, and even with the menu changes, we were impressed! Although these are small plates, the portion sizes are good and perfect for sharing and trying a bunch of items. We will continue to keep you updated as Disney continues to take over the Morocco Pavilion.
