2020 has brought a LOT of twists and turns, and we’re still very much in the midst of grappling with them. This year and next were supposed to be exciting ones in terms of opening attractions.
There are still projects to be excited about, of course, but Disney has left us wondering when and if some of them will ever be completed. Luckily, there are a few BIG Disney attractions that we can still expect to open in 2021 — here are the upcoming projects scheduled for completion next year!
Walt Disney World
1. TRON Lightcycle Run
A super-futuristic coaster that is still technically scheduled for 2021 is TRON Lightcycle Run in Magic Kingdom. Walt Disney Imagineer Bob Weiss did indicate that the timeline for this attraction was impacted by the closures.
However, Disney has not indicated that the attraction will NOT be ready in time for Disney World’s 50th Anniversary in October 2021. So, at this time, it remains scheduled for next year.

2. Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure
And, we’ve got a delayed attraction that has been CONFIRMED as opening in 2021! Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure in EPCOT was supposed to welcome guests last summer but was delayed with the closures.

3. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind
Next, we’ve got Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind in EPCOT. This Marvel Cinematic Universe-inspired attraction is set to be a first-of-its-kind Omnicoaster, a term coined to mean the ride vehicles can turn in all directions while moving at high speeds.
This reverse-launch coaster was originally set to open in 2021 and it’s one of the few attractions that HASN’T seen any announced delays or changes to the opening timeline. It’s possible the internal date has changed, but this attraction is still on track for next year as far as we know.

4. Play Pavilion
The next EPCOT attraction that makes this list is the Play Pavilion in what will be World Discovery (part of a reimagined Future World). This pavilion is set to introduce a world of play where guests can interact in a digital city with fun games and favorite characters.
The Play Pavilion was originally set to open sometime in 2021 and we haven’t heard any updates. Though it could have been affected by the park closures, Disney hasn’t made any updates to tell us we can’t expect the pavilion next year.

5. Moana Journey of Water
The closure came at a time that disrupted several EPCOT transformation projects, but work is still in progress! Another of the expected attractions is Moana Journey of Water, a lush exploration trail walkthrough attraction set to debut in World Nature of EPCOT.
Technically the opening date has never REALLY been announced for this attraction but during the park closures, a merchandise release noted that Journey of Water would be opening in 2021. Disney quickly removed the info but we could see this attraction next year!

6. Harmonious
And our final new attraction that we’ll (probably) see in EPCOT in 2021 is the all-new nighttime spectacular, Harmonious! This new show was supposed to debut this year as a HUGE nighttime spectacular that shows how music brings people together.
Of course, it has yet to open and Disney has yet to give a date when we can expect to see the new shows. Since work is still ongoing, we’re expecting to catch the new show next year (hopefully, anyway!).

7. Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser
This next one on the list is a bit bigger than just one attraction, but to our knowledge, the Star Wars hotel, Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, is still scheduled to open in 2021. The Disney World page still lists it as opening in 2021 and we haven’t heard differently!
Reservations were set to be released this year and as of right now, Disney hasn’t shared information regarding a released date. So we will see if that happens on track! If it is still on track, reservations should be released VERY soon!

8. Drawn to Life from Cirque du Soleil
The next attraction on the list is actually in Disney Springs! Earlier this year, Cirque du Soleil’s new show in cooperation with Disney was supposed to debut in Disney Springs and we were SO excited to see Drawn to Life.
With live entertainment sort of tricky right now, this show has been delayed to 2021. As of right now, tickets are on sale starting in February, and hopefully, the show will stay on track for those dates (as long as it’s safe!).

Disneyland
9. Avengers Campus
Over in Disneyland, the BIG news tends to be about Avengers Campus, the WHOLE NEW LAND in Disney California Adventure based on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This is another one that’s MORE than just a single attraction.
Avengers Campus will include new dining, shows, character experiences, and the new WEB SLINGERS — A Spider-Man Adventure attraction. It was initially supposed to open in the summer of 2020 and doesn’t have a new opening date but we’re hoping we see it next year! This will really depend on when Disneyland is able to reopen, so at this time things are still pretty up in the air!

Disneyland Paris
10. Avengers Campus
Speaking of Avengers Campus, Disneyland Paris will be getting its own version of this new land in Walt Disney Studios Park! The opening for the Parisian Avengers Campus was announced as 2021 and there haven’t been any announced changes to the expected opening!
This version of the new area will be slightly different. It will still have the WEB SLINGERS attraction, but it will also feature a retheme to Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster into an Iron Man-themed ride!
Hong Kong Disneyland
11. Arendelle: World of Frozen
Hong Kong Disneyland is still expecting the opening of Arendelle: World of Frozen, an all-new Frozen-themed land, in 2021. The land will be located between “it’s a small world” and Toy Story Land with some new icy attractions.
Not only will Hong Kong Disneyland be getting its own version of Frozen Ever After (we know it well from EPCOT), but it will also be getting a family coaster called Wandering Oaken’s Sliding Sleighs.
We sure do hope these attractions open up next year! For some of them, we’ve been waiting for far too long already. As always, stay tuned to DFB so that you’re the first to hear of any opening dates!
