The Disney World Closures That Could CHANGE Your Plans Next Week

It takes a lot of work to keep Disney World looking fresh, clean, and shiny for guests!

Drained Rivers of America

Disney will often schedule refurbishments to freshen up attractions or work on larger projects. It’s best to know what rides or venues are closed so you can plan around the schedule during your vacation. Let’s take a look at what’s closed next week December 14th through December 20th!

The holidays are in full swing and you may be filling up on Candy Cane Martinis and Holiday Turkey Poutine. You should also be aware of a few interruptions that are happening in Disney World!

Walt Disney World Railroad

You may have heard of a little thing called TRON Lightcycle Run. The new coaster is currently being built in the Magic Kingdom and we’re getting closer to the finished product a little bit every day. The attraction is located right next to Space Mountain towards the outer ring of the Magic Kingdom. While the coaster is under construction, the railroad is closed and the train is not running.

Magic Kingdom Train Station

We could see the train reopen around the time that TRON is projected to debut in October 2021. No official updates have been given about the train’s reopening date at this time.

You can still enter the bottom level of the train station on Main Street.

Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover

The PeopleMover has been giving us mixed signals since Disney World reopened. The beloved attraction was on the list of available rides that were slated to open with the parks in July. Instead, we encountered an extended closure that lasted beyond the reopening dates.

Closed PeopleMover

Eventually, Disney unceremoniously put the PeopleMover on the refurbishment calendar without much explanation.

Closed PeopleMover

The refurb schedule for PeopleMover has been extended twice and is now set to end on January 9th, 2021. We’ll absolutely keep you posted if this temporary closure gets extended or opens earlier.

Tom Sawyer Island and Liberty Square Riverboat

Have been to the Magic Kingdom lately? You may have noticed that the Rivers of America is totally drained!

Dry Rivers of America

The river bed and surrounding areas are being refurbished. Guests walking by can see the river bottom as well as the tracks that guide the Liberty Square Riverboat around Tom Sawyer Island. Cast Members have been spotted working diligently on the dry river too.

Seeing as there’s no water, the riverboat and island are currently closed.

The Tom Sawyer Island and Liberty Square Riverboat are currently on the refurbishment schedule and slated to end on February 28th!

Additional Construction

There’s a lot more going on inside the theme parks next week! The park entrance side of the Main Street Train Station has two scrims placed in view. One scrim is placed in front of the building and tracks and the other is on the second level of the station facing Main Street. It’s unclear how long this small update will last.

EPCOT is full of construction as Disney prepares for the huge overhaul and transformation.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind Construction

For those of you visiting in January, Kali River Rapids is set to be down for refurbishment starting January 3rd, 2021 through April 1st, 2021.

In addition to these closures, both water parks, and some resorts, attractions, and entertainment have to reopen as well. Have any questions about the closures? Drop us a comment below!
