The Most NOT Disney Things That Are Totally (Weirdly) Disney Now

We’re still processing ALL the news that was shared during last week’s Disney Investor Day.

We learned that more than 100 titles will be coming to Disney+ in the next year, including a highly anticipated Hocus Pocus sequel, ALL the Marvel and Star Wars series we could ever dream of, and a new Pixar film! Well, we’ve been really busy obsessing over all the new Disney-related titles, but there were also plenty of announcements about what’s coming to some of Disney’s other streaming services!

We’re taking a look at the most unexpected, most non-Disney, Disney announcements.

Star

During Disney Investor Day, we learned more about Star, Disney’s new international streaming service platform, and Star+ which is specific to Latin America. This streaming service will include general entertainment content including films and series from 20th Century Studios, FX, Disney Television Studios, and more.

We’ll share what’s coming to this new platform as well!

Hulu

We’ve already polled our readers about their feelings about Disney’s new deal with the Kardashian-Jenners for their upcoming show coming to Hulu and Star. This is a multi-year deal and most of our readers weren’t super thrilled about it. The series is set to debut in 2021!

It was also shared that Hulu’s drama series, The Handmaid’s Tale, will be getting a fifth season. A new series, Nine Perfect Strangers, is also in the works. This show is based on the best-selling novel and will star Nicole Kidman. It’s expected to premiere in 2021.

Hulu viewers can also expect a bunch of additional new series! Comedy legends Martin Short and Steve Martin will star in the series, Only Murders in the Building, along with Selena Gomez. Dopesick, is a drama series that will feature Michael Keaton, Rosario Dawson, and more! Kate McKinnon will star in The Dropout, a story about con-artist Elizabeth Holmes. These new titles will also be available on Star.

A selection of FX originals can be streamed on Hulu and Star in 2021. These titles include American Horrors, Reservation Dogs, Platform, The Old Man, and Y: The Last Man

FX

Under the FX umbrella comes four additional seasons of the popular sitcom, It’s Always Sunny in PhiladelphiaThe addition of these extra seasons makes this live-action sitcom the longest-running in the history of television. Viewers can also anticipate a new drama series based on The Rolling Stones, which is currently in talks among the network. The Stones is slated for two seasons.

Horror fans can look forward to the upcoming adaptation of the classic sci-fi film, Alien, which is being made into a series! Additionally, Shōguna retelling of the saga by James Clavell will be added to this ever-growing list of new series! All of these new shows will be available to stream on Star as well!

Disney+

Here are the new things coming to Disney+ that come from some of the other studios that have merged with Disney! Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Night at the Museum, and The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild from 20th Century Studios will be developed into new animated versions!

Sports fans can also look forward to a documentary about NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo, titled Greek Freak.

ESPN+

A selection of new studio shows and original series will be coming to this sports platform. Sports personality, Stephen A. Smith, will be featured in the show, Stephen A’s World, sharing a look into Smith’s insights. Tom Brady will be getting a nine-part documentary series giving fans a look into Brady’s athletic career. This documentary is titled, Man in the Arena: Tom Brady.

You’ll also be able to watch the third season of Peyton’s Places showcasing many familiar faces in sports! Additionally, a reimagined interpretation of SportsNation will be on weekday mornings beginning in January. And for football fans, select games from the Southeastern Conference will be available to stream on ESPN+ beginning in 2021.
