The NEW Shows and Movies You ALREADY Forgot Were Announced For Disney+

Disney recently held its Investor Day and announced SO many new Pixar, Disney Animation, Nat Geo, Marvel, and Star Wars movies and shows that will be filling our screens the next few years.

And while there were definitely some stand-out announcements, like the new Ahsoka series, that got lots of attention, there are quite a few other shows and movies that seem to have gotten overlooked or overshadowed by some of the other projects shared. So, today we’re sharing our list of the top new announcements from Investor Day that you may have totally overlooked or not even noticed!

Lucasfilm Ltd.

A Droid Story

With all the news of Hayden Christensen returning to OBI-WAN KENOBI and the new Andor series, we feel like some may have totally overlooked the announcements about A Droid Story

R2-D2 at Droid Depot

A Droid Story is set to be a Star Wars adventure film for Disney+ featuring a new hero guided by R2-D2 and C-3PO. Lucasfilm Animation and Industrial Light and Magic have come together for this unique creation and we’re definitely interested to learn more!

Flora & Ulysses

During Investor Day, Disney announced that Hocus Pocus 2 is in the works and will be released exclusively on Disney+, and that news may have totally overwhelmed anything that came before or after it, so you may have missed out on the cute new film announced for Disney+ called Flora & Ulysses!

This film is a comedy-adventure based on the Award-winning book about a 10-year-old named Flora who is a BIG comic book fan and cynic, who rescues a squirrel…with unique superhero powers! And the film will be here sooner than you think! It’s actually set to premiere on Disney+ on February 19th, 2021. This sounds like a totally cute adventure!

Night at the Museum

And while you may LOVE the Night at the Museum movies, did you catch that a brand new ANIMATED version of Night at the Museum is coming soon?!

It’s actually set to launch on Disney+ in 2021 and Shawn Levy (who directed the previous films) is on board as a producer.

Cheaper by the Dozen

Did you also catch that Cheaper by the Dozen is getting a remake with “black-ish” producer Kenya Barris and is set to be released on Disney+ in 2022?

Gabrielle Union is set to star in this new story focusing on a blended family of 12 working through busy family life and managing a family business.

Sister Act 3

With all the other news being shared, you may have also totally forgotten that Sister Act 3(!!) was also announced and Whoopi Goldberg is actually on board already to star in the film and produce it!

And Tyler Perry has also signed on as a producer. Oh, and to top it all off, it’ll premiere right on Disney+! Oh, happy day!

Walt Disney Animation Studios

Zootopia+

While the news of Raya and the Last Dragon hitting Disney+ Premier Access and theaters on the same day is something not many would have missed, we feel like the absolutely adorable-sounding Zootopia+ is something that just got totally overlooked!

This new short-form series will give us a closer look at some of the film’s characters like Fru Fru (the newly married arctic shrew), Gazelle’s tiger dancers, and Flash (Flash, Flash, hundred-yard dash)! We’ll have to wait until the Spring of 2022 to see it, but we’re so excited to see more about these fun characters!

Baymax

And while the news of Tiana and Moana getting their own shows got some big focus, everyone’s favorite giant healthcare bot, Baymax, will also be getting his own series!

The show is set to take place in San Fransokyo and each episode will feature a new patient for Baymax to help.

Pixar

Pixar Popcorn

We’re already excited for Pixar’s Soul to hit our screens soon, and the ADORABLE preview of Dug Days had us falling in love that that show, but did you remember that Pixar also announced a mini series called Pixar Popcorn?

Pixar Popcorn is set to come to Disney+ in January of 2021 and will be a collection of mini shorts with some of your favorite Pixar characters in new, “bite-size stories.” We can’t wait to see what unique adventures we get to see the Pixar characters going on!

Marvel

I Am Groot

Okay, so maybe all the news about She-Hulk, Moon Knight, Secret Invasion, and Armor Wars had your brain spinning so much, that by the time Marvel got to the adorable sounding I Am Groot series you couldn’t even process things! But, we definitely cannot wait to see Groot in this series of brand new original shorts on Disney +!

Pair it with the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, and you’re sure to have a marvelous time!

Nat Geo

Limitless With Chris Hemsworth and Welcome to Earth (Working Title)

Nat Geo had its fair share of new announcements as well, but you may have been so overwhelmed by the announcement of a new Indiana Jones film (WITH HARRISON FORD) to notice (we don’t blame you). But, we do want to mention Limitless with Chris Hemsworth and Welcome to Earth (Working Title) with Will Smith — two new projects coming to Disney+ that will feature big-name celebrities and some epic adventures.

Get ready to explore the limits of the human body with Hemsworth and go on a global journey with Smith, and (we expect) have lots of fun along the way.

Disney Television Studios

Turner & Hootch

And, finally, we get to some forgotten announcements from Disney Television Studios. While Mighty Ducks (with Emilio Estevez) and Big Shot (with John Stamos) might have gotten your attention, what about Turner & Hooch?

This series will tell the story of an “ambitious, buttoned-up US Marshall” who inherits an unruly, BIG dog. Eventually, the Marshall realizes “the dog he didn’t want may be the partner he needs.” And Josh Peck (who many fans will recognize from Drake and Josh) will star in this series as Scott Turner, the son of Detective Scott Turner (portrayed by Tom Hanks) from the 1989 film.

The Mysterious Benedict Society

Disney Television Studios is also working on a new series called The Mysterious Benedict Society which follows the stories of a group of orphans placed undercover at a boarding school called The Institute. The group is placed there to “foil a nefarious plot with global ramifications,” and, along the way, they create a new kind of family.

The series is based on the bestselling book by Trenton Lee Stewart and will actually star Emmy Award winner Tony Hale in the titular role!

And those are just SOME of the many new projects discussed during Investor Day. We can’t wait to see all of these projects in the future and hear about more new series and movies that have yet to be announced!
