Can you believe it? Next week is CHRISTMAS!
Those of you traveling during Christmas week will want to stay extra flexible. Crowds can get heavy around the holidays and you’ll want to prepare for long lines! It’s also good practice to keep informed on scheduled attraction closures when you’re traveling to Disney World. That way, you’re not totally disappointed if you suddenly find out your favorite ride is closed. We’re here to help you plan around the scheduled refurbishments so you’ll experience less stress on vacation. Let’s take a look at the refurb schedule from December 21st through December 27th!
Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover
Let’s get the hardest one out of the way. We hate to break it to the PeopleMover fans that the attraction is closed for refurbishment. Unlike other refurbishments, this one didn’t seem like it was planned. We expected the ride to reopen with the Magic Kingdom in July. The ride remained closed for days and Cast Members had to stand outside and break the news to hopeful guests.
After an extended closure, the attraction was officially put on the refurb calendar and the opening date was extended twice.
There is a light at the end of the tunnel! The PeopleMover isn’t listed on the refurb scheduled after January 9th, 2021. Hopefully, guests will be reunited with the beloved ride again next month!

Tom Sawyer Island and Liberty Square Riverboat
Did you know the riverboat that transports guests around the Rivers of America is on a track? Well, you can get proof if you head to the Magic Kingdom. The river has been completely drained and the boat tracks have been revealed!
It’s kinda cool to see the inner workings of a Disney attraction. However, we understand a drained river isn’t exactly picturesque. It also means that the Liberty Square Riverboat and visits to Tom Sawyer Island are currently unavailable.
The refurb schedule for both attractions is scheduled to end on February 28th, 2021. We’ll keep an eye out to see when the river starts to fill up again!

Walt Disney World Railroad
Guests are gonna have to wait to hear the trusty train whistle again! Construction for the new TRON Lightcycle Run is interrupting the train’s grand circle tour of Magic Kingdom.
TRON is located near Space Mountain towards the very edge of the park. All the commotion for the new attraction has stopped the train from transporting guests to each of the stations.
It’s unclear when the railroad will reopen and the train will start operating again. TRON is projected to open in October 2021. Perhaps the train will reopen around this time if all goes according to plan!

Notable Construction
Be aware that EPCOT is undergoing a huge transformation right now. Walking into the park is like walking into a corn maze made of construction walls. The walls are for EPCOT’s new look and upcoming attractions. There are no scheduled refurbishments on the calendar for EPCOT but you might have a few walls in your Spaceship Earth photos.
Guests who visit Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort will notice there’s a lot going on here too. The resort lobby is getting a big overhaul and the rooms are being refurbished. Note that the main entrance is blocked off and the monorail is currently not stopping here!
The Main Street Train Station is getting a little work done too. You’ll see a brown scrim covering the top half of the station and a facade covering the lower half. You can still visit the train station on the lower level.
Do note that the Disney World waterparks are closed as well. That’s it for next week! Stay tuned with us as we give you your weekly Disney World refurb updates!
