Disney World will often close attractions, restaurants, or resorts for refurbishments. Some closures are scheduled in advance while others are unexpected and due to maintenance issues or other reasons.
You won’t always find the closures advertised before your trip so it’s good to stay in the know! We’re here to help you plan ahead by listing all the planned refurbishments for this week. Check out everything this will be closed between January 25th through January 31st!
Magic Kingdom Refurbishments
The Hall of Presidents
The Hall of Presidents is a historical presentation that features audio-animatronics representing every past and present United States President. At the end of the show, George Washington and the current president will make a speech. The attraction is currently closed while the Imagineers create and install a new animatronic for President Joe Biden.
As of right now, the refurbishment has no scheduled end date. We’ll keep you updated when we learn an official reopening date.

Liberty Square Market
The small quick-service stand in Liberty Square sells fruits, veggies, and turkey legs on-the-go. The market is currently closed for refurbishment at this time. The refurbishment calendar currently states that the market will remain closed through February 1st, 2021.
It’s unclear why the market is closed for refurbishment. Until it reopens, you can pick up some quick bites nearby at Sleepy Hollow Refreshments!

Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover
We might finally see the PeopleMover reopen this week! The ride didn’t reopen with the rest of the Magic Kingdom way back in July. This means Tomorrowland fans haven’t stepped foot on the attraction since March. After the official closure announcement, we’ve seen the ride refurbishment be extended THREE times in the last several months.
As of this writing, the PeopleMover is listed on the refurb calendar through January 30th, 2021. We’ve seen the PeopleMover being tested so this could be a sign we’ll see the ride reopen!

Tom Sawyer Island and Liberty Square Riverboat
The Rivers of America borders Liberty Square and Frontierland while surrounding Tom Sawyer Island. The river has been completely drained so construction workers can refurbish the river, island, and other areas. Recently, we noticed that the riverboat guide rails were being painted while the building called “Harper’s Mill” got a fresh paint job too.
The Harper’s Mill sign was painted over and the scaffolding was removed from the building. We’ll be curious to see if this building stays unlabeled or if more refurbishments are on the way. They have also started refilling the water in Rivers of America. As of right now, Tom Sawyer Island and Liberty Square Riverboat are closed until March 1st, 2021.

Walt Disney World Railroad
All three train stations are closed at the Magic Kingdom and the train is not making its daily rounds. The massive construction zone for TRON Lightcycle Run is currently blocking the train’s path through Tomorrowland.
This new roller coaster was originally scheduled to open for Disney World’s 50th anniversary this year. This project has been delayed and there is no official opening date. We might hear about the railroad reopening date once we get a better idea of TRON’s debut.

Animal Kingdom Refurbishment
Kali River Rapids
It’s fairly typical for Disney to shut down water rides during the winter months. The cooler weather is a deterrent for guests which makes it an opportune time for refurbishments. Kali River Rapids is currently scheduled to remain closed through April 1st, 2021.
Those of you who love water rides in winter can still ride Splash Mountain

Disney World Resort Refurbishments
As an FYI, several resorts are undergoing refurbishments in the coming months. Disney’s Contemporary Resort is receiving refurbished guest rooms in the Main Tower. We were told that the refurb will last between April through 2021. We’ll keep you updated as we learn more!
Construction on Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is well underway and the hotel will see a lot of enhancements this year. The entryway, lobby, and monorail station are receiving big updates. And, the guest rooms will get a Moana-inspired makeover too! The construction is expected to finish sometime this summer.
The Paddock Pool waterslide in Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa is getting some work done. We’ll have to see if the change is as dramatic as the clown slide at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn! Also, the Big Blue Pool at Disney’s Art of Animation is closed as well.
You’ll also notice a ton of construction at EPCOT at this time. The theme park is undergoing an enormous transformation with new attractions, nighttime shows, and even a new look. We’ll continue to keep you updated on all closures and refurbs in the future!
