9 of the SCARIEST Rides in Disney World, According to YOU!

Disney World is the Most Magical Place on Earth, but for some people, some rides can be PRETTY scary for some people! After all, Disney is home to heart-dropping elevator rides, deep plunges, and…musical bears! The horror!

Crowds in Magic Kingdom

We asked our readers what were their scariest rides in Disney World, and you DELIVERED!

Many responses were expected (the Tower of Terror lives up to its name, huh?) and some were pretty surprising (Jungle Cruise? Well that tiger IS kinda scary!). Even better, some non-rides also made the list of responses, including the loooooong lines for coffee on Main Street, U.S.A., the flight home after vacation, and the credit card bill when it’s all over — LOL!

Here are 9 of the scariest rides in Disney World, according to YOU!

Tower of Terror

Unsurprisingly, this Hollywood Studios icon racked up the MOST votes, by kind of a landslide! Really, the name is right there in the title. It’s all about the TERROR at this classic elevator-drop experience!

Tower of Terror

As thrilling as it might be for some, some respondents recall how traumatized it made them as a kid, or how it simultaneously terrifies AND excites. There’s nothing like that feeling of having your stomach drop and your heart race while plummeting into darkness!

Dinosaur

Another ride that got a LOT of votes was this Animal Kingdom attraction! Honestly, bouncing around like loose change in a dark ride vehicle through pre-historic jungles isn’t exactly chill, so we get it. Especially when we’re repeatedly being roared at by carnivores!

Dinosaur

Not to mention the ever-building panic of racing back to the time machine safely to avoid mass extinction! Getting pummeled by a meteor isn’t an ideal outcome for a day at Disney! 😉

Space Mountain

As one respondent calmly put it, “I’ve never been so scared to lose my head on a ride.” Ahh, there’s nothing like the fear of decapitation to really boost the adrenaline! That’s Space Mountain, for you!

Space Mountain

This mile-a-minute indoor roller coaster, which zooms around in total darkness at harrowing speeds, is an adrenaline rush for SURE. But according to a few of you, there’s just something about traveling at that velocity in utter blackness that kinda adds to the scary factor .

The Haunted Mansion

Sure, this old-school Magic Kingdom staple has “haunted” in the title, but most folks love it for the kitsch and the relaxed pacing. For a handful of our readers, though, it’s still scary!

Haunted Mansion

As one reader explains, their main fear is of potentially being stuck alone on the ride if/when it breaks down. And for some, it might not exactly be calming to be stuck for several minutes on end in front of an ax-wielding Constance Hatchaway. So yeah, that makes sense.

It’s Tough To Be A Bug!

Every time we do this A Bug’s Life attraction at Animal Kingdom, we’re kinda shocked that this is primarily a kids’ ride! After all, a lot of the experience entails simulating getting stung by hornets, crawled on by maggots, and threatened by spiders the size of bicycles! If not scary, it’s at LEAST creepy!

It’s Tough to Be a Bug

A few of you agree, as we got some responses claiming this as your scariest ride at Disney World. Sure, Flik and his pals are cute, but the 4-D levels of terror happening here sometimes makes it tough to ride It’s Tough To Be A Bug — especially for the little ones!

Country Bear Jamboree

We also got a few responses for a jolly Magic Kingdom attraction, which is less a ride and more a silly musical show with animatronic Teddy Bears. Actually, now that we say that out loud, it could be kinda creepy to some!

Country Bear Jamboree

The fact that more than one answer was for Country Bear Jamboree showed us that many folks think that some animatronics are less cute and more…frightening?

Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster

Or as one reader put it, simply “Aerosmith.” Assuming they meant the ride and not the band itself, we can see it. After all, this is a mostly dark, indoor roller coaster that rockets to super seed within seconds, ZOOMING through a neon-lit Hollywood before coming to a screeching halt.

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster

If this is the pace of life for musicians, then we’ll give superstardom a pass, thanks! Now if Aerosmith would do us a favor and drive to their concerts in golf carts, we’d be down with that!

“it’s a small world”

Hilariously, this response is not at all surprising! This Magic Kingdom mainstay is as notorious for its “creepy” dolls as it is for its slow, melodic pace through various cultures and landscapes.

It’s a Small World

It might be leisurely and relaxed, but that unnervingly choreographed chorus of children singing and twirling MIGHT not be for everyone!

Bygone Rides of Disney Yore

For better or worse, several of responses were for scary rides that no longer exist! These includeExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter at Magic Kingdom and the Great Movie Ride at Hollywood Studios.

Chinese Theater Before Construction Changes in 2018

According to one reader, it’s a ride that used to be terrifying, but that horror has grown into wistful nostalgia.

From dark indoor coasters to musical children with dark eyes, these are some of the rides at Disney World that YOU think are scariest!
