Disney World has a lot of attraction and restaurant closures scheduled in the next few months!

Disney World is ramping up to celebrate its 50th anniversary and sprucing up the place a bit. We’re listing every ride, restaurant, and resort that will be closed for refurbishments between February 1st through February 7th, 2021.

Magic Kingdom Refurbishments

Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover

Here we go again! The PeopleMover has had a rough year! The attraction has been down since Disney World closed way back in March. We were expecting it to open with the rest of the Magic Kingdom in July. However, the ride stayed closed and was later put on the list of ride refurbishments. Since then, we’ve seen the reopening date be pushed back FOUR times. 

We KNEW it was too good to be true! It’s unclear what’s going on over in Tomorrowland and why the PeopleMover is having such troubles! We were expecting it to reopen last week on January 30th. The new reopening date is March 1st, 2021.

The Hall of Presidents

The Hall of Presidents temporarily closes after a new president is elected in the United States. The attraction features animatronics of every past and present president in their likeness. At the end of the show, the current president (using a real voiceover) and George Washington make a speech.

The show is currently closed while Disney creates and installs the new animatronic for President Joe Biden. No reopening date has been announced yet.

Tom Sawyer Island and Liberty Square Riverboat

The Rivers of America was recently drained so construction workers can update the surrounding area including Tom Sawyer Island. We’ve seen the building labeled “Harper’s Mill” got a fresh paint job and work being done on the riverboat guide rails.

The river has now been refilled and we can once again enjoy the scenic waters.

Despite this, two attractions are closed for refurbishment. Tom Sawyer Island and Liberty Square Riverboat are scheduled to reopen on March 1st, 2021.

Liberty Square Market

Liberty Square is getting a lot of work done apparently! The quick-service stand is currently closed for refurbishment as well. This stand was known for selling light snacks like fruits and veggies or hefty snacks like giant turkey legs.

The market is set to reopen in February and is getting closer to opening. In the meantime, you can pick up some epic loaded at Sleepy Hollow Refreshments!

Walt Disney World Railroad

The Disney World train is not taking passengers at this time! Ever since construction began for TRON Lightcycle Run, the railroad and stations have been closed. The roller coaster is mammoth and takes up a lot of space in Tomorrowland. This construction zone has been interrupting the train’s daily trips.

We could see the train start operating again when TRON is closer to finishing. However, TRON’s construction was delayed so the train’s reopening date could be pushed into 2022 or beyond. We’ll be sure to update you as we learn more!

Animal Kingdom Refurbishments

Kali River Rapids

Disney has shut down the water ride in Animal Kingdom for the next couple of months. It’s a common occurrence for wet rides to be down for refurbishment during the winter months.

Kali River River Rapids is scheduled to remain closed through April 1st, 2021.

Disney World Resort Refurbishments

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is undergoing many updates this year! The entryway, lobby, and monorail station are being remodeled. (We recently saw the monorail platform be demolished outside the resort.) And, the guest rooms will get a  Moana-inspired makeover! The construction is expected to finish sometime this summer. Kiki Tikis Splash Play Area “will be closed while it undergoes refurbishment from February through March 2021 as well.

Disney’s Contemporary Resort will receive refurbished guest rooms in the Main Tower. A Cast Member told us the refurb will last between April through 2021. We’ll keep you updated as we learn more!

The Paddock Pool waterslide in Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa is also getting a few updates. Plus, the Big Blue Pool at Disney’s Art of Animation is closed for refurbishment as well.

Lastly, you’ll also notice LOADS of construction over at EPCOT. The theme park is undergoing an enormous transformation with new attractions, nighttime shows, and even a new look. We’ll continue to keep you updated on all closures and refurbs in the future!
