News: Disney World Being Considered As a COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution Center

A few days ago we shared that Disneyland Resort would be home to the first large-scale vaccination site in Orange County, CA.

Throughout the week, we’ve been getting more updates on this development: how it will work, who will have first access, and where it will be located. As the logistics for this big move are discussed, it leads us to question — could a similar set-up be made at Walt Disney World?

Today, FOX News and the Orlando Sentinel both reported that Disney World is being considered as a possible vaccination site in Florida.

One of the big reasons that Disney World is being considered is because the resort has access to an ultracold freezer — which happens to be the perfect place for storing the vaccine. Geographically, Disney World sits near both Polk and Osceola County, both places that have a great need at the moment.

Disney World also has a proven history of controlling crowds, and that expertise could be useful for distributing vaccines on a large scale. State Rep. Anna Eskamani said, “There are 4.3 million people over the age of 65 in Florida. We need all hands on deck if we are going to get these seniors inoculated and move on to the next population.”
