Review: Does Animal Kingdom’s Newest Muffin Live Up to Its BIG Name?

Harambe Fruit Market in Animal Kingdom’s Africa offers up the perfect chance to grab a quick morning bite before adventuring on Kilimanjaro Safaris. It’s prime real estate just outside the entrance to the popular attraction makes it a great place to grab some fruit to start the day, or maybe a Simba Pretzel a little later on.

One snacking area where they’ve really been delivering lately, though, is muffins. And while that may not sound altogether exciting, we’re talking about yummy seasonal offerings like autumn’s Pumpkin Cream Cheese Swirl and the holiday season’s Gingerbread Swirl. So when we noticed the new Double-Chocolate Butterscotch Banana Muffin up for grabs… well, how could we resist?

Let’s say that again: Double-Chocolate. Butterscotch. Banana. MUFFIN!

And this things come fully loaded!!

Double-Chocolate Butterscotch Banana Muffin

Here’s the flavor breakdown: the muffin itself is chocolate banana. The butterscotch, along with the “double” in that chocolate, come from chips. And, in truth, despite the color-contrast leading you to think there’s plenty of butterscotch, the abundance is actually in the chocolate chips upon digging in.

Here’s the good news: this dense muffin is very moist. The banana flavor comes through and is wonderful with the chocolate. In truth, the base itself is so good, we actually could’ve done without both varieties of baking chips. The overabundance of the chocolate chips actually overpowers the base of the muffin, and even overpowers the butterscotch, as well.

So, chocolate lovers? You’ll likely be thrilled! Those looking for more of the flavor variety implied by the name may be a bit disappointed.

This is definitely a very sweet treat for the morning, so remember that Harambe Fruit Market features plenty of “better-for-you fare” to go around (“fruit” IS in the name, after all)!

The Double-Chocolate Butterscotch Banana Muffin is $3.99. And you can bet we’ll start all of our morning treks at Animal Kingdom checking out what they’re serving up at Harambe Fruit Market to let you know all the latest snacking scoop!
