Lunar New Year might be a few weeks away, but that hasn’t stopped Disney from getting in on the fun!
Not only have we seen SO many adorable merchandise items around Disney World and on shopDisney, but Shanghai Disneyland is having an entire festival to celebrate!
This year is the year of the Ox, and Shanghai Disneyland will be hosting “A Spring Festival Spectacular“! The entire resort will be filled with traditional festive Chinese games, and “sounds and tastes combined with special touches of Disney magic.”
From January 19th to February 26th, this event will offer holiday decor and character experiences. Mickey & Friends (including Duffy and his pals) will be dressed up in brand new holiday outfits! “God of Fortune” Goofy will also be there to wish everyone excitement and luck in the new year. Guests will have a limited time to see Mickey and Minnie in their new costumes on February 12th, which is the first day of Lunar New Year!
This event marks the debut of one of Mickey’s friends, Clarabelle Cow and the show called “Our Families.” This is described as a unique show that will take place every night after the nighttime projections on the castle.
And from February 8th to February 14th, the Shanghainese version of “Once Upon a Time” , recorded by Pan Hong, will return to the Enchanted Storybook Castle and immerse guests in the local culture.
With the new nighttime show also comes a “Spring Festival Drum Ceremony” and the “Mickey Avenue Shanghai Swing” to get guests up and celebrating! Plus, Disney Friends decorations that were specially made for the festival can be found throughout the resort.
No Disney event is complete without some special eats! At the Wandering Moon Restaurant, there will be traditional “Nianwei”, and at the Royal Banquet Hall, guests can grab some fairytale themed treats fit for royalty. Additionally, Lumiere’s Kitchen will feature a buffet with Aurora!
There may be several Lunar New Year merch items in Disney World, but Shanghai Disneyland will have many more goodies including the popular Chip & Dale headband, and a limited-edition Mickey and Minnie plush in their festival outfits! Also there will be some fun options featuring Duffy and Friends.
This festival sounds like the perfect way to ring in the Lunar New Year! We’ll continue to look out for the latest festivals and events at Disney Parks all over the world, so stay tuned to DFB for the latest news.
