VIDEO: Step-By-Step Tutorial on How to Make Mickey Beignets!

Mickey Beignets — they truly are a thing of glory.

Mickey Beignets

Whether you prefer the chocolate version or the pumpkin spice variety, they’re a sweet, messy treat everyone can enjoy. But, the Disneyland Resort theme parks are closed and Disney’s Port Orleans French Quarter is closed at Disney World, so how can you get your hands on these amazing mouse-shaped beignets? Well, you can make them at home of course! And we’re going to show you exactly how!

Early last year, we shared this Mickey Beignet Recipe, but now we’re taking you step-by-step through the process so you know what to do! Keep in mind, this recipe will give you enough dough to create about 10 large Mickey Mouse-shaped beignets or 2 dozen small beignets.

Let’s begin with the ingredients you’ll need.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 teaspoon dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water (105°)
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable shortening
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 egg
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup boiling water
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar

Once you’ve assembled all of the necessary ingredients, put on your Disney kitchen apron and let’s get cooking!

Directions

First, you’ll want to place your cup of warm water (1/4 cup at 105°) in a small bowl, and sprinkle 1/2 teaspoon dry yeast over the warm water. Then, you’ll need to stir the two together to dissolve the yeast in the water. Let that stand for 5 minutes.

Sprinkle Yeast

In a separate, large bowl, combine your 1/4 cup of sugar, 2 tablespoons of vegetable shortening, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt…

…as well as 1/2 cup of heavy cream

Adding in the Heavy Cream

and 1 egg.

Mix in the Egg Too!

You’ll also want to add in your 4 cups of all-purpose flour…

…and 1/2 cup of boiling water.

Adding in the Water

Finally, stir the yeast mixture from the small bowl (that you made at the beginning) into this big bowl with your other ingredients.

Next, make sure your electric mixer has the dough hook attached. With the dough hook attachment of your electric mixer on medium speed, mix the dough…

Mixing the Dough

just until combined and smooth. Here’s a picture of what the dough should look like.

The Dough!

Once it reaches that point, let the dough rest for 30 minutes. No FastPasses here!

Rest!

Once you’ve waited the 30 minutes, roll the dough to 1/4-inch thickness.

Roll Out the Dough

Next, cut individual beignets with a Mickey Mouse-shaped cutter or cut into 2 1/2 to 3-inch squares.

Cut Them Out!

Then, cover your little Mickeys with a towel and let the dough rise until it has doubled in size. You’ll want to let the dough rise in a warm, draft-free area, for about 1 to 1 1/2 hours. Here’s what our Mickeys looked like before.

And here’s what they looked like after we let them rise! You can see that they’ve just about doubled in size.

Next, it’s time to get FRYING! Using caution, heat 3 inches of vegetable oil to 350°F in a deep, heavy pot over medium-high heat. Then, put in your beignets.

Fry Those Beignets!

When the beignets turn brown on one side, turn them over.

Fry the beignets until they are golden brown — about 2 to 3 minutes.

Yummy!

Once they are golden brown, safely remove them from your pan with tongs and place them on paper towels to drain. Once they’ve drained some of that oil, you can place them on your serving plate.

Then (this is arguably one of the most important parts) dust the warm beignets with powdered sugar and serve immediately!

How much powdered sugar is enough? That depends entirely on your preferences, but we’d say if you don’t get your hands and shirt covered in powdered sugar while you’re eating the beignets, you probably haven’t put enough!

YUM.

Want to add a little extra KICK to your beignets? You’ll need a few additional tools. If you grab a pipette and your favorite liquor — in this case, we used Baileys Irish Cream — you can make a 21+ boozy beignet treat. Simply fill the pipette with the liquor, place the pipette inside of your beignet, and fill the beignet with the alcohol.

Bailey’s

Want to kick it up ANOTHER notch? Make a beignet sundae! Add your boozy (or even just a regular beignet) to a bowl or other serving container.

Then, top it off with your favorite ice cream. In this case, we went with King Cake Ice Cream.

Add any toppings you want to that, like caramel sauce, chocolate sauce, Nutella, or anything else!

Top it off with some whipped cream and sprinkles, and you’ve got the Mickey Beignet sundae of your dreams!
