As we get closer and closer to the celebration of Disney World’s 50th Anniversary, there’s lots of construction taking place.
We’ve got lots of updates to share this week with projects underway in multiple parks and resorts! Let’s check them all out.
Magic Kingdom
Peter Pan’s Flight
This classic Fantasyland attraction has had walls up surrounding its building for over a week now. The prominent brown scrim has grown since last week and is certainly eye-catching (and not in a good way).
Throughout the week, it just continued to grow.
In the past, we’ve seen Disney use scrim that mimics the actual physical appearance of the building it’s covering but we’ve yet to see that happen with Peter Pan’s Flight.

Bonjour Village Gifts
We’ve been following the exterior refurbishment of Bonjour Village Gifts in Fantasyland and now an entirely fresh paint job has been revealed!
The little shop is looking totally spruced up now!
This weekend, we also got a glimpse of the refreshed floral mural that’s on the side of the building!
It says, “Fleuriste Cueillez vos Fleurs,” which roughly translates to, “florist to pick your flowers.”
It looks like this refurb is just about done!

Cinderella Castle
Alright, if you’ve taken any pictures in front of Cinderella Castle this week, they probably looked a little different than you expected. Earlier this week, we noticed hedges surrounding the perimeter of the castle!
Beyond that, some of the railings around the castle are wrapped in gray scrim.
Plus, there are some small, covered walls behind the hedges.
As if that weren’t enough, we also noticed the moat surrounding the castle is being drained!
About halfway through the week, a decent amount of water remained in the moat. There was still enough so the bottom of the moat wasn’t yet visible.
As of Saturday, water levels were way lower. Soon enough, we expect this waterway will be totally empty.
For now, it seems that everything going on in front of the castle is just some standard stage maintenance. We’ll share more updates with you when they become available.

TRON Lightcycle Run
The upcoming TRON coaster was originally planned to be one of the new attractions debuting in time for the anniversary celebrations, but it’s unclear if it will be ready in time. This futuristic coaster will be a “thrilling race through the digital frontier.”
Last weekend, we noticed some of the construction support beams being removed.
We’ll be sure to keep a close eye on this project as we get closer to the anniversary in October!

Frontierland and Adventureland
In between the Frontierland and Adventureland bridges, a wooden dam is in place in the water.
We’re not entirely sure what the purpose of this dam is, but it could have something to do with the draining of the Cinderella Castle moat.
For now, it’s a mystery.

EPCOT
Future World
Each week, the structures in Future World get more and more barren. Here, the roof has entirely been removed.
From a zoomed-out angle, you can get a better idea of how major this demolition is.

Italy Gelato Kiosk
This week, nothing has seemed to change over at Italy’s upcoming gelato kiosk! However, this photo provides a clearer look at some of the stone details that make up the exterior of the building.
Although we don’t know when this new spot will open, we do know that it’ll be serving up a dozen different gelato flavors when it does! And you can definitely count us in for that.

Harmonious
A new construction barge arrived at the World Showcase Lagoon this weekend. This indicates that this project is speedily pressing forward!
Currently, there are still only two barges to be used in the show positioned in the lagoon.

Disney Resorts
Polynesian Village Resort
As Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort undergoes refurbishment to get an updated look inspired by Moana, we’ve visited frequently to check out any new developments (okay, okay, we go there to get Dole Whip too). This week, we noticed new additions near the monorail track.
You can see the new support beams alongside it.
Later in the week, platforms were being installed around the pillars to create a new structure adjacent to the track.
Over at Kiki Tikis Splash Play Area near the pool, construction is still being done.
This area is expected to remain closed until March 2021.

Art of Animation Resort
Last weekend, we noticed that the iconic storybook pages near the entrance of Disney’s Art of Animation Resort were being REMOVED!
Fast forward later into this week, and the characters are totally gone (except for Simba on the very end there).
Work is also taking place at the Big Blue Pool. You can see the jellyfish statues wrapped in plastic sheets with construction machinery on-site.
As seen last week, the pool is still entirely drained.
We’ll continue checking up on ALL the projects going on at this resort!

Pop Century Resort
Over at Pop Century, the pool is also drained. The Hippy Dippy Pool is closed for refurbishment through early March.
The big ol’ “POP” sign that greets guests at the resort looks like it’s undergoing some maintenance as well.
We’ll keep checking back here for more updates.

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser
The upcoming Star Wars hotel is one of Disney’s most highly anticipated projects at the moment. It’s been a minute since we’ve heard any updates, so we took a quick drive past the construction site this week.
We noticed some new plants and trees had been planted around the building.
At the hotel building itself, nothing looked especially different. We guess new plants are better than no plants. Progress is progress, right?
We’re eagerly awaiting more details about this hotel!

Walt Disney World Entrance Sign
The Walt Disney World Entrance Sign on World Drive is now getting its reimagined look!
This part of the sign had started to be repainted gray as we drove by this past week.
We’ll provide more updates as this sign’s new look progresses.
See what a completed entrance sign looks like!
Wow! This week was FILLED with construction updates! We’re getting closer to the 50th Anniversary of Disney World, so we can expect more updates to come.
