Sports attendance in California could return soon.
California Governor Gavin Newsom has not allowed fans to attend sporting events in the state since the start of the pandemic. But according to NBC Los Angeles, he is now having “advanced conversations” with local health authorities and Major League Baseball about a policy change.
He clarified that he’s “working on the final details” to update guidelines, and expressed confidence that fans could be seated in the back of the stadium when baseball season begins in April. He cited a 43% drop in COVID-19 hospitalizations over the last 2 weeks and a decline in COVID-19 positivity rates as justification for his reconsideration.
He stated, “… We have confidence that when you think forward, look forward to April opening day, where we are likely to be if we all do our job…I have all the confidence in the world fans will be back safely in a lot of those outdoor venues.”
No official announcement has been made yet, although Newsom indicated that one may be on the way. We’ll keep you posted with updates as we receive more news. Stay tuned to DFB!
