Electronic People Counters Added to Select Walt Disney World Merchandise Locations

Last week we noticed some changes in COVID-19 precautions at select merchandise locations. We’ve now learned that some of the busier merchandise locations at Walt Disney World have electronic counters that can keep track of people coming and going out of the store. Here’s what we’ve seen so far.

Electronic Capacity Counters at Main Street Emporium

At Main Street Emporium we spotted these small electronic counters. You can see them at the doorways all around this massive shop. Just look overhead and you’ll see two small circles above each doorway.

We’ve observed that the doors to Emporium will be kept open until the store reaches capacity. At which case the doors are closed until capacity is reduced.

This new method seems like a nice efficient way to keep track of capacity. The only issue we’re seeing is without Cast Members outside of the store’s entrances there are guests exiting and entering the same doorway. Prior to these changes the designated entrances and exits were pretty well maintained. But generally speaking Disney’s physical distancing practices are very strong and mask compliance continues to be strong as well.

What do you think of these new changes? Let us know in the comments!

NEWS: Florida Governor Says Vaccine Passports Will Not Be Required in the State

Things related to the COVID-19 pandemic have been developing and changing recently in light of vaccines continuing to being distributed and more individuals becoming eligible to receive them.

Health and Safety Signs in Disney World

Earlier this year, we shared that vaccine passports may be required to travel and for other special, large events. Even more recently, we shared how various vaccine passport systems are in the works and how a vaccine passport may be required by certain businesses as things start to return to some sense of normalcy. But now we’ve got an update about vaccine passports as they relate to the State of Florida.

According to WESH 2 News, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis recently commented on the news surrounding vaccine passports. Governor DeSantis specifically said, “we are not supporting doing any vaccine passports in the state of Florida.”

Physical Distancing Signs

In a recent press conference, DeSantis stated, “It’s completely unacceptable for either the government or the private sector to impose upon you the requirement that you show proof of vaccine to just simply be able to participate in normal society.”

DeSantis shared how Florida has emphasized that they would provide the vaccine for all, but mandate it for none. He said the state will not make its residents get the COVID-19 vaccine, and that he would not support vaccine passports in the state.

Flying to Orlando

According to U.S. News & World Report, DeSantis has said that he also intends to issue an executive order forbidding local governments and businesses in Florida from requiring “vaccine passports” to show that customers have been vaccinated.

DeSantis called on Florida’s Republican-led legislature to send him a measure for his signature that would enshrine the matter into law.

Orlando Airport

At the moment, various vaccine passport programs appear to be in the works for the U.S. and in the works for countries around the world as well. Some industries and companies have indicated that they will require guests to be vaccinated in order to enter or participate. For example, Royal Caribbean International has indicated that only vaccinated adults (and younger individuals with a negative COVID-19 test) will be allowed to board upcoming cruises.

We’ll continue to keep an eye out for more updates and let you know what we see.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has spoken out against the “vaccine passports” currently under consideration by the Biden administration. The “passports” or credentials are meant to easily prove whether or not someone has been vaccinated, to allow them access to places that require proof. DeSantis does not support the “vaccine passports”, stating Florida’s approach to the vaccine is to “provide it for all, mandate for none,” although the passport would not be a mandate, only a digital or physical record of […]
