PHOTOS: Metal Grates and Additional Heating Elements Added During Cinderella Castle Stage Refurbishment Preparing for 50th Anniversary at Magic Kingdom

image-from-ios-379

Cinderella Castle is in the middle of an “EARidescent” transformation in preparation for the 50th Anniversary of Walt Disney World. The stage in front of Cinderella Castle was recently stripped of its flooring so a brand new stage can take its place. Floor framing and heating elements were added to the left side of the stage, and now metal grating and additional heating elements were installed as well. The wooden floor frames cover the entire length of the stage with […]

What’s New in Magic Kingdom: Facial Recognition and a BIG PeopleMover Update!

Is there anything like the beautiful view of Cinderella Castle from Main Street, U.S.A.?

Cinderella Castle

We’ve been lucky enough to catch this view a few times over the past few days as we take in all the sights of Magic Kingdom. Now, we’re bringing you an update on everything NEW in construction and merchandise!

Magic Kingdom Construction Updates

Entrance

Perhaps the BIGGEST update from Magic Kingdom is that Disney is testing a new facial recognition system for park entry. This testing option adds a lane where guests can try out the new system to help Disney test out the tech.

Let’s Get Scanning!

Facial recognition could provide a touchless alternative to finger scanners at park entry. We’re certainly interested to see if this becomes the norm when you’re headed into the theme parks!

To see the new facial recognition in action, click here!

Cinderella Castle

MORE 50th Anniversary details have been cropping up on Cinderella Castle! We can’t wait to see what it looks like with the full “EARidescent” overlay!

Cinderella Castle Decorations

Fantasyland

Over in Fantasyland, we noticed that the Cinderella Carriage photo op has been removed. Previously, the carriage sat by the Fantasyland walls for a few months so that guests could take photos with it.

Peter Pan’s Flight

Tomorrowland

More BIG news comes from over in Tomorrowland! The PeopleMover was undergoing MORE testing, this time including the moving ramp that leads up to the attraction. Eek!

PeopleMover

This is the first time we’ve seen (and heard) the ramp running since the attraction closed so we’re hoping this means we’re a big step towards the reopening.

Click here to see VIDEO of the PeopleMover testing!

Of course, we took a gander at the progress on TRON Lightcycle Run too. That canopy is still looking like a pretty imposing sight in the Tomorrowland skyline!

Magic Kingdom Merchandise Updates

Uptown Jewelers

Uptown Jewelers had an ADORABLE new vintage matching line inspired by 101 Dalmations. There are the 101 Dalmations Dress Set for ladies and the 101 Dalmations Bowling Shirt for fellas!

How pawsitively perfect!

The dress set is available for $168 while the shirt will run you $59.99.

Photos Around Walt Disney World – Magic Kingdom 03/25/2021

Want a taste of the magic of Walt Disney World? Here’s a look at my experience at Magic Kingdom on Thursday, March 25, 2021!

I was able to experience the new Facial Recognition Test for the first time when entering Magic Kingdom. When the test initially started, it was reported that the testing would only happen in the morning. I entered the park just after 2:00 pm and left around 5:00 pm and the optional test was still happening. Only one lane was handling the test, but the process was very simple and it will be interesting to see what comes of it.

I expected to see more crowds when I hit Main Street, U.S.A., but traffic was relatively light. Wait times ranged from 10 minutes all the way to 85 minutes, so a lot of people were in line for attractions, but not necessarily crowding the streets and pathways.

I started my day by popping into The Chapeau before it closes down for a refurbishment on March 29 along with the Main Street Confectionary.

Normally the Main Street Confectionary is too sweet for my tastes, but I still had to pop inside to see it one last time before they make changes to the classic location inside Magic Kingdom. Luckily, I was able to see some of the Easter goodies they have on display!

After leaving the Confectionary, I made my way to Cinderella Castle get get a closer look at the 50th Anniversary decorations added to the castle so far!

My favorite detail is the little 50 on the buttons of some of the decorations.

I also took a moment to appreciate the Cinderella Castle stage construction.

I made my way through the castle to Prince Charming Regal Carrousel to get a closer look at the gold leaf added to the attraction to help it look better than ever for the big anniversary.

Here’s a look at one of the enhancements in progress compared to the finish version beside it. Quite the transformation.

I kept moving deeper into Fantasyland towards Bonjour! Village Gifts to see the art displayed inside now that the Main Street Cinema Art of Disney location is being repurposed due to the construction of the Main Street Confectionary and Chapeau.

I couldn’t not be in Magic Kingdom without peeking in on the Tron construction. It feels like they are making so much progress on the outdoor portion, but it’s still going to be forever until we actually have a chance to ride it.

I circled back out of Storybook Circus and continued moving through Fantasyland towards Liberty Square when I had the chance to see Peter Pan’s Flight beautiful temporary sign.

From a distance in Liberty Square, I spotted some Country Bears out and about in Frontierland, so I had to go say hi.

Finally, I moved into Adventureland, so I could see the current state of Swiss Family Treehouse during its refurbishment.

When leaving Adventureland, I was almost tempted to pick up a snack at the Spring Roll cart, but I resisted the temptation.

That was a small bit of my day at Magic Kingdom! Hope you enjoyed getting a chance to see some of what I experienced and stay tuned for more!

Review: There’s a New HIDDEN Brownie in Disney World

We’re headin’ somewhere a little unusual for a Disney World treat today!

Disney’s Hollywood Studios

We sure have been busy trying all the Easter dessert in Disney World! But of course, we’ve gotta make time for the other new eats around the parks. And we when we spotted a new brownie in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, we just HAD to try it! It reminded us too much of the brownies at Casey’s Corner to pass up. Oh Casey’s, we MISS you.

If you miss those brownies in a cup too, you’re in luck! We found a new one at the popcorn stand outside Voyage of the Little Mermaid in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. That’s a kinda weird spot for a brownie, wouldn’t ya think? But this isn’t just any brownie: it’s the Seaside Brownie, which means it matches the Little Mermaid theme just right.

Seaside Brownie

You’ll get your brownie with chocolate ganache, cookie sand, and a white chocolate topper. It’s ooey and gooey and super tasty! We’re gonna be honest: it’s SO much better than the Mickey brownie you can grab on Sunset Blvd. That one had some dry parts around Mickey’s ears, and we didn’t have that issue with the Seaside Brownie.

If you’re gonna get a brownie in the park, grab this one!

Now, we’ve still gotta rank the iconic Num Num Cookie over this new treat. The Seaside Brownie costs $5 while the Num Num Cookie is $6.19, and we’d splurge an extra dollar for the latter any day. But if you’re craving a brownie in particular in Hollywood Studios, go for this one!

So gooey!

We’ll keep an eye out for more new treats around the parks! Stay tuned to DFB for the latest Disney news.

What You Need to Know if You’re Staying at Pop Century or Art of Animation Soon

The Value Resorts are a popular choice for many families vacationing at Walt Disney World. For many guests they satisfy the desire to be on Disney property, with magical Disney touches, while staying in budget. But, there are some things you need to know if you’re staying at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort or Disney’s Pop Century Resort anytime soon.

Hippy Dippy Pool at Pop Century Closed to Capacity – March 24, 2021

Here’s what you need to know about staying at Art of Animation and Pop Century:

  • The Big Blue Pool is closed for refurbishment through early April 2021
  • As a result there is a special price for tickets to Disney’s Blizzard Beach for Art of Animation guests only
  • The main pool at Pop Century can close due to capacity during peak periods
  • Lines for Disney Skyliner are long in the morning and around EPCOT’s opening time
  • Disney has placed signs encouraging guests to use their bus system instead
  • Disney Skyliner system does not have any lines during midday, but does get busy again at closing time
  • Each quick service dining location, one at Pop Century and one at Art of Animation, currently have simplified menus that are very similar
  • Resort hotel playgrounds are open, theme park playgrounds are still closed
Big Blue Pool at Art of Animation Closed for Refurbishment

During spring break, and upcoming summer, Disney hotel pools are more popular than ever. Currently the Big Blue Pool at Art of Animation is closed for refurbishment. Disney’s website states it is closed through early April 2021. But, in the Art of Animation lobby there is a sign advertising a special offer for Art of Animation resort guests only.

One-day water park tickets to Disney’s Blizzard Beach are just $25 plus tax for Art of Animation guests. This is about one third of the regular price. The sign indicates the effective date is through May 27, 2021. Usually Disney extends this type of offer to hotel guests when the main pool is closed for refurbishment.

While the Big Blue Pool is in refburhsment, you may want to consider requesting a room that is not near this area, due to noise and not-so-great views. Use our Room Finder for help selecting the room that best fits your needs.

Also in pool news, the Hippy Dippy Pool at Pop Century has been closing due to capacity as Spring Break crowds look for a midday pool break. When I visited the resort this week signs that read “Pool Closed” were located all around the perimeter of the pool. A Cast Member was stationed at the main entrance of the pool. I witnessed them asking a family trying to get into the pool area how many were in their party, and as another party left asked them what general area they were seated.

We’ve seen reports of Disney’s Coronado Springs resort main pool closing during peak times too, but they have a nifty text notification system. The quiet pools at Pop Century and Art of Animation, and the water playgrounds, are open as normal and so far not seeing any capacity issues. And speaking of playgrounds, the resort hotel playgrounds are open, though theme park playgrounds remain closed.

Art of Animation Nemo Playground is Open – March 24, 2021

As you can imagine there are long lines for Disney Skyliner in the morning before park opening. Disney has signs placed indicating they have extra buses to Hollywood Studios and EPCOT. After the morning rush there are no lines. Park hopping hours of 2:00 p.m. can get a little busy at the transfer station of Caribbean Beach, but nothing compared to the morning rush. Closing time for the parks can be busy too, of course.

Skyliner Station for Art of Animation and Pop Century

The menus at Landscape of Flavors and Everything POP have been scaled back, like many dining locations throughout Walt Disney World. And you’ll need to utilize mobile ordering. If you need any customization on your order you’ll need to speak with a Cast Member at the registers.

So that’s about everything that’s new and recent at Disney’s Art of Animation and Disney’s Pop Century Resorts. Will you be staying anytime soon?
