Walt Disney World is the perfect place to make any special occasion extraordinary. Disney offers many options to make a memorable celebration even more unforgettable. Of course, many of these add-ons can be a costly addition to a vacation. However, some of these are worth the extra charge.
For instance, Mickey celebration cakes are available to order at most Disney World table service restaurants. These cakes are adorable with their chocolate ears and domed shape that make it look like the famous mouse himself. More impressive than these, however, are the customized cakes that can be ordered (through the Disney cake-ordering hotline) from many of the deluxe resort bakeries. These delectable cakes can be ordered and customized with varied choices of cake flavor, icing, and filling from location to location. The largest plethora of options can be found at the Grand Floridian bakery where most of the wedding cakes for Disney World guests are made. This resort’s bakery does not only offer wedding cakes, though.
On a recent vacation, my family purchased a customized cake to celebrate my parents’ anniversary. We selected a marble cake with vanilla buttercream frosting and chocolate mousse filling. The only other aspect that was selected was the addition of a Mickey and Minnie figurine to top the cake. The other elements of the cake’s design were left for the chef to decide. There are other cake flavors, frosting types, and fillings from which to choose as well.
The presentation of the cake was beautiful. While the icing was a simple white, the white chocolate Mickey and Minnie figurines on top of the cake were perfectly sculpted, are were clearly crafted with excellent care and artisanship. A fondant banner also graced the top of the cake, reading “Happy 20th Anniversary.” The only decorative part of the dessert that wasn’t edible was a small light that illuminated the white chocolate figurines. The only thing better than the beauty of the pastry was its flavor.
The cake was deliciously moist. Even after a day, the cake was not stale in the slightest. Although the flavor was advertised to be marble, the cake was overwhelmingly vanilla with only a few small chocolate patches. This was not detrimental to the dessert’s flavor. The vanilla was flavorful and very sweet but not sickly sugary, and the chocolate patches, while subtle, enhanced the vanilla base. The light, dainty flavor of the vanilla was complemented by the fluffy chocolate mousse filling. The mousse was exquisitely rich, luscious even. The mousse itself elevated the dessert from a simple cake to an edible masterpiece.
This cake was unquestionably delicious. The dessert’s perfect texture, elegant presentation, and delectable decadence created not only a sublime cake but an excellent experience. It was, quite possibly, the best cake I’ve ever had the pleasure of enjoying. However, it did come with the hefty price tag of $80. Without any additional decorative elements, the typical customized cake is $50.
While this is not an inexpensive luxury, if you are celebrating a special occasion, one of these delectable cakes may be worth every penny. I cannot speak of the other variations of these cakes, but if my experience is any indication, the customized cakes at Walt Disney World are incredibly exquisite. If an extra expense is in your budget, the talented chefs of the resort bakeries can make a special occasion, or an ordinary day, that much more magical.
