Plan Outdoor Attractions in the Morning

When storms hit Disney World, outdoor attractions are closed for the safety of guests and Cast Members.

While the rain can obviously strike at any time, storms are most common during the afternoon, especially during the summer months when it rains nearly every day.

Sometimes outdoor attractions will reopen later in the day if the severe weather passes. But if the storms stick around, outdoor rides might remain closed for the rest of the day.

If you see a chance of storms in the forecast, be sure to ride any must-do outdoor attractions in the morning, in case severe weather causes them to close later in the day.

Wear Quick-Drying Shoes

Take it from us, walking around Disney World in soggy shoes can be a pretty uncomfortable experience. That’s why we opt for quick-drying shoes when we head out to the parks.

As previously mentioned, the weather in Florida can change pretty quickly, so it’s best to be prepared with quick-drying footwear even if the forecast doesn’t show rain when you initially head out. Plus, you’ll also be prepared if you decide to brave a water ride like Splash Mountain!

If you typically wear sandals to the park, we suggest a pair that has a strap on the back to keep them (and you!) from slipping around when wet.

Get Indoors if a Severe Weather Warning is Issued

So, what should you do if a severe weather warning is issued when you’re already inside the park? First and foremost, be sure to get indoors as quickly as possible.

Find whatever indoor location is closest that you can safely access, whether it’s a store, restaurant, restroom, or attraction.

Severe thunderstorms can bring lightning, high winds, and hail, all of which can be dangerous to guests out in the open. If a severe weather warning is issued, find an indoor location you can access ASAP, and stay inside until it has passed.
