ICYMI, the Jungle Cruise in Disneyland and Disney World is getting a fresh new look!
Earlier this year, Disney announced that changes were coming to the ride on both coasts. We’d see a new storyline, new characters, and more! Magic Kingdom’s Jungle Cruise is remaining open throughout the retheme, giving us the opportunity to spot changes as they’re made to the attraction. And now, we have a peek at what’s coming!
We noticed earlier this month that Trader Sam had been removed from the Magic Kingdom Jungle Cruise. While Disney hadn’t announced what Trader Sam’s future would look like throughout the retheme, it had stated that the reimagining would address negative depictions of “natives.” However, there was no confirmation that Trader Sam was gone for good OR that he’d reappear.
Well, now we know exactly what will happen to this classic character! Trader Sam, Alberta Fall’s longtime friend, is now in charge of the Lost and Found location on the river. But Trader Sam’s decided to make some extra cash…and turned the Lost and Found location into a gift shop! Unfortunately while he was out looking for new wares, monkeys raided his store. Typical. (Squint and you’ll also spot a monkey with a camera! Could this mean there will be an on-ride photo?!).
This will be the last scene on the ride — so we’re expecting it to be placed where the old Trader Sam scene was! Disney stated that the “enhancements debut later this year,” so we’ll be sure to keep an eye out for this addition. Stay tuned to DFB for the latest updates on the Jungle Cruise and everything else Disney!
