Nobody Asked For This Monte Cristo Update in Disneyland

We’re covering a LOT of changes in Disneyland right now as we explore the park for the first time in over a year!

So pretty… sigh

We’ve been reporting LIVE from the park today. Now, we’re bringing you some Disneyland food news that might not be the best thing you hear today. You may need to sit down for this one.

Disneyland Resort has some seriously iconic food and drinks. From Dole Whip to Churros, and from Corn Dogs and Mint Juleps, it’s hard NOT to find a tasty bite in these parks. Now, though, an ICONIC meal has been switched to a much smaller portion. And no, we aren’t talking about the snack-sized portion we had at A Touch of Disney.

We were pretty ecstatic to be reunited with the famous Monte Cristo Sandwich from Blue Bayou and Cafe Orleans when it appeared at Smokejumpers Grill during A Touch of Disney. The big difference? It was a HALF portion. Prior to the closures, Cafe Orleans was serving up a full portion of the Monte Cristo Sandwich but has now switched to serving a 1/2 Monte Cristo Sandwich instead. Aw, beans.

Um…where did the other half of the Monte Cristo go?

Previously, you could get a full Monte Cristo (so four cornered pieces) for $21 at Cafe Orleans. Now, you get just two quartered pieces for $21. It still comes served with Berry Purée, Parmesan-Garlic Pommes Frites, and Cajun-spiced Remoulade. That’s right…the OTHER big change is that the Monte Cristo now comes with a SIDE of Parmesan-Garlic Pommes Frites. You can no longer order the Pommes Frites on their own!

Um…where did the rest of our Pommes Frites go?!

Now, this is kind of a bittersweet change. It’s hard to be happy about a smaller portion but when you consider that price change and how RICH this sandwich is, it might not seem as bad. But to pay essentially the same price as before for HALF of what you used to get (granted, it comes with an extra side now) is a tough pill to swallow. Warning though, this sandwich isn’t all that shareable anymore. Blue Bayou, however, still serves the full portion.

We’ll be reporting in on ALL the changes in Disneyland as we continue to explore the reopening week, so stay tuned to DFB for all the latest updates!
