ALL the Restaurants Coming to the Disney Wish

Phew! We’ve had TONS of Disney Cruise Line news today.

©Disney

The Disney Wish will set sail on June 9th, 2022, and we could NOT be more excited. We’ve already learned lots about what characters we can see, what the rooms will look like, and so much more. We’ve also told you about all the dining options you can expect onboard…and there are a LOT of ’em. So we’re breaking it all down for ya!

The ship will feature 3 family-friendly dining experiences. Let’s dive into those first!

Family Dining Experiences

Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure

Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure is Disney’s first-ever Frozen-inspired restaurant — and it promises TONS of fun! Guests will attend Anna and Kristoff’s engagement party, which is catered by Oaken’s “Hearty Party Planning Service… and Sauna” and features plenty of live performances.

©Disney

The “theatrical dining experience” lets you interact with Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, and Olaf — and you’ll encounter some pretty cool special effects! As for the food? It’s “world class cuisine” with Nordic influences. Sounds exciting!

Worlds of Marvel

You’ve heard all about Disney’s first Frozen restaurant…but how about its first Marvel restaurant? Worlds of Marvel will be Disney’s “most ambitious dining experience ever.” It puts YOU right in the middle of your own superhero adventure!

©Disney

You’ll play a big part in an interactive Avengers mission…with a surprise appearance by an “infamous foe!” While you live out your Marvel dreams, you’ll munch on food inspired by the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That includes dishes based off of Wakanda, Sokovia, and New York City!

We love the idea of an “attraction” combined with a meal. We’ll keep ya posted as we hear more details!

1923

The third restaurant is 1923, and it takes guests on a journey through the evolution of animation! Named after the year The Walt Disney Company was founded, 1923 will serve up California eats that are light, fresh, and flavorful.

©Disney

While you eat, you’ll be surrounded by over 1,000 props and piece of artwork, showing how The Walt Disney Company came to be what it is today. And as a tribute to the men who started it all, you’ll dine in either the Walt or Roy Disney room!

This Hollywood-inspired restaurant will be elegant with “a dash of Disney whimsy.” We can’t wait to try it for ourselves!

Adult Dining Experiences

Star Wars: Hyperspace Lounge

Star Wars: Hyperspace Lounge is a family-friendly watering hole by day…but by night it “jumps to lightspeed” to become an adult-only space! It’ll serve up “signature beverages inspired by the films,” and you’ll also get a chance to participate in interactive tasting experiences.

©Disney

There’s a lot of cool tech going into this lounge. The virtually-enhanced space will transport guests through hyperspace to iconic Star Wars locales like Tatooine, Batuu, and more. You’ll watch sensational scenes through a panoramic viewport!

©Disney

Disney also hinted at some “robotic magic” here, but hasn’t released any more details. But boy are we excited to find out what that means!

Beauty and the Beast-Inspired Spaces

Adults will also be able to experience a suite of 3 adult-exclusive dining experiences inspired by Beauty and the Beast! While Disney hasn’t revealed too many details on these areas just yet, we do know that there will be a spot called The Rose to sip on a before or after-dinner cocktail…

©Disney

Palo Steakhouse, inspired by Cogsworth, which will serve authentic Italian and plenty of steaks…

©Disney

…and Enchanté, inspired by Lumière! Enchanté will be the ship’s most elegant dining experience, featuring a gourmet menu by three-Michelin-starred Chef Arnaud Lallement. It’s just what Lumière would want!

©Disney

These spaces will all be part of an adult-only retreat located on the upper deck of the ship. We’ll keep you posted as we learn more!

Quiet Cove Pool District

Quiet Cove, an adults-only district with a pool, whirpool spa, and more, will have 2 dining offerings. The first is Cove Bar, an open-air spot to grab beer, wine, and cocktails.

©Disney

We’ll also see the return of Cove Cafe, a popular feature on other Disney Cruise Line ships! This poolside lounge will have specialty drinks and treats, with a Moana-inspired theme.

The Disney Wish will set sail on June 9th, 2022, and you’re able to start booking on May 27th, 2021! We’ll keep ya in the loop as we get ALL the details — and continue to update this post as more dining spots are announced — so stay tuned to DFB!

All of the Shows, Theaters, and Entertainment Spaces Coming to the Disney Wish Cruise Ship!

Well, today is a BIG day when it comes to Disney Cruise Line news!

Disney Cruise Line, Disney Wish Concept Art ©Disney

Earlier today Disney showcased some of the new dining locations, character experiences, and other things coming to Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship — the Disney Wish! But wait, there’s MORE! Today Disney also shared a look at some of the new entertainment offerings that will be available on the ship including movie theaters, new shows, and unique entertainment spaces. Let’s dive into it all now!

Walt Disney Theatre — Design

First, we’ll tackle the Walt Disney Theatre. If you’ve been on a Disney Cruise Line ship before, you know this is the large theatre space you go to nightly for those spectacular Broadway-style shows and other entertainment offerings.

Today we got a look at the design of the theatre for the Disney Wish. The space is actually inspired by the “fantastic floral worlds of the animated classic Fantasia.”

©Disney

You’ll want to look all around the theatre for special details…

©Disney

…and features inspired by a magical forest.

©Disney

The 1,274-seat theater spans three decks with orchestra and balcony seating. Disney shares that the theatre will also “be equipped with state-of the-art technology, including the most robust projection mapping capabilities of any Disney ship and a Dolby Atmos 3D audio system — a first for the cruise industry — to create a transformative theatrical experience rivaling anything on land or at sea.”

Walt Disney Theatre — Shows

Wondering what shows you’ll be able to watch in the Walt Disney Theatre during your cruise? Today Disney revealed that guests will get to enjoy a reimagined adaptation of Disney’s Aladdin — A Musical Spectacular on the Disney Wish. This is a show that guests have been able to enjoy on other Disney Cruise Line ships in the past, but it sounds like the version of this show on the Wish will feature some reimagined elements.

©Disney

On the Disney Wish, guests will also get to experience 2 all-NEW, original productions! Disney has said that more details about these shows will be released in the future.

Movie Theaters

Another fan-favorite activity aboard the Disney Cruise Line ships is the ability to watch new and old movies in the movie theater on board. On the Disney Wish there will be 2 intimate screening rooms to watch your favorite films.

These movie theaters “will be the first in the cruise industry to offer Dolby Atmos 3D audio technology for the most immersive movie-going experience on the high seas.”

©Disney

These two cinemas are known as the Wonderland Cinema (84 seats) and the Never Land Cinema (86 seats). Based on the deck plans, it looks like these will be located on Deck 4 of the ship, near the Walt Disney Theater.

As always, guests will be able to watch classic films in these theaters as well as first-run films. A Disney Cruise Line official noted that they will still be able to premiere new movies on the ship when they premiere on land.

©Disney

As you might expect, the Wonderland Cinema is inspired by Alice in Wonderland. It will feature “nods to the otherworldly creatures and distinctive characters who inhabit the ever-curiouser Tulgey Wood.” That woodland motif will continue onto the ceiling of the space to “create the feeling that guests are peering up through the enchanted tree canopy above.”

It’s Alice!

Never Land Cinema, on the other hand, is inspired by Peter Pan’s flight from London to Never Land. According to Disney, “As guests revisit iconic scenes such as Skull Rock and Mermaid Lagoon, the venue’s night-sky color palette will light up with the flutter of Tinker Bell’s wings.”

New Entertainment Spaces

Looking for more entertainment spaces aboard the Disney Wish? There’s plenty! Let’s go through three of the ones discussed during this prevention.

The Grand Hall

The Grand Hall of the Disney Wish will actually be able to transform into an environmental theater with the “help of a hidden layer of special effects and the first-ever atrium stage on board a Disney ship.” The stage will transform throughout the cruise, and one Disney representative said that special effects and the integration of technology will transform the space from day to night.

©Disney

There will also be a special balcony in the Grand Hall where Disney characters will appear, just as we saw the Fairy Godmother “appear” there during today’s presentation.

©Disney

According to Disney, in the Grand Hall “dedicated shows and interactive entertainment will come to life all around guests.”

Luna

On the Disney Wish, there will also be an event space called “Luna.” According to Disney, “This brand-new entertainment hub will transition from a daytime setting for family fun into an elegant evening venue for adult-exclusive entertainment, offering a variety of live shows and interactive programming throughout the day and night.”

Luna is inspired by the Disney and Pixar short La Luna. It will feature a “celestial design” and will have a “two-story LED screen wall, stylish stage, full-service bar and spacious seating.”

©Disney | Pixar

There will also be a balcony that will be “offer a more intimate setting for enjoying the festivities in small groups, with secluded seating in semi-private booths.”

One of the Disney representatives that spoke during today’s question and answer section said that Luna will be a great place for families to interact during the day. But at night it will be an adult-exclusive space that really makes you feel like you’re on a luxurious vacation. They also shared that there are lots of details inside from the Pixar short and you’ll get the chance to see some different characters. Sounds like there are lots of things to look for!

©Disney

According to the deck plans online, it looks like Luna will be located on Deck 5.

Hero Zone

If you’re looking for some active family time, Hero Zone is where you’ll want to go! Disney shares that this is a “futuristic sports arena where physical activity will blend with imagination, alternating between an elaborate family obstacle course and a free-play sports hub.”

It’s set to be a space where imagination will meet active play. During the question and answer portion, a Disney representative said that families will be able to interact together there in an active and engaging way. They said there will be exciting things that will take part of the space.

©Disney

Families will be able to take on some physical challenges here themed to Disney’s heroes during game show-style competitions. Just want to watch and not participate? You can head to the balcony viewing area to cheer on the participants!

Outdoor Entertainment

On the upper decks of the Disney Wish, there will be more entertainment spaces. According to Disney, the family pool district will double as an entertainment venue. There will be a “poolside stage and a jumbo LED screen.” In this space, guests will get to enjoy “brand-new deck parties and nighttime fireworks spectaculars developed exclusively for this ship.” More experiences coming to this space will be revealed later.

©Disney

According to Disney, the upper decks of the Disney Wish will also be home to “10 pools and water play areas—inspired by Mickey and his pals,” as well as the new Toy Story Splash Zone “featuring larger-than-life rubber bath toys and the Slide-a-saurus Rex family slide.”

©Disney

We’ll continue to keep an eye out for more details about the Disney Wish and let you know what we find!

Become a Superhero, Read with Belle, and Build a Roller Coaster on the Disney Wish!

Wanna see what we’re VERY interested in right now?

Disney Wish ©Disney

Yep, it’s Disney Cruise Line’s newest cruise ship the Disney Wishsetting sail in the summer of 2022. Disney Cruises are well known for being a delightful experience for families and with Disney characters, themed dining, and even an attraction at sea; the Disney Wish is no exception. But some parts of the ship are made just for KIDS!

A staple of the Disney Cruise ships is the offering of kids’ clubs. These are places where parents can leave their littles and not-so-littles (ages 3 months to 17 years) to experience the Disney magic while grown-ups find some Disney magic of their own.

©Disney

Walt Disney Imagineering Senior Creative Director Danny Handke said of these spaces, “There is no doubt that kids are going to have the time of their lives aboard the Disney Wish. The nursery is a fanciful playground perfect for curious little ones. The tween and teen clubs are so stylish that adults will wish they could hang out there, too! And where else in the world can kids explore a superhero headquarters, a royal kingdom, and an Imagineering lab in a matter of steps? Put simply, it’s great to be a kid on a Disney cruise.

Disney’s Oceaneer Club (Ages 3 to 12)

Let’s take a look at these options! Kids ages 3 to 12 will be able to visit Disney’s Oceaneer Club. You may have seen one of these clubs on an existing Disney Cruise ship. The new one on the Disney Wish is reimagined with a LOT of immersive spaces.

©Disney

The Wish’s Oceaneer Club features three signature themed spaces and much, much more. Kiddos will get to experience storytelling, arts and crafts, dress-up, toys, games, watching Disney movies, and hanging out with their favorite Disney characters.

©Disney

To enter the club, parents will check their kiddos in a deck above in the Grand Hall and then send them “down the rabbit hole” on a secret SLIDE that will land them safely in the central hub. Don’t worry, there’s a door for the grown-ups too. The central hub will be decorated with sketches of Disney characters, and feature a stage with shows, activities, and character appearances.

Marvel Super Hero Academy

Let’s talk about those three signature areas! First, there’s the Marvel Super Hero Academy where youngsters will train to be the next generation of superheroes with help from heroes like Spider-Man, Black Panther, Ant-Man, and the Wasp.

©Disney

Kids will be able to choose a super-suit from options inspired by Marvel heroes and watch as it forms in real-time. Then, they can join Avengers: Mission Training for a gesture-based technology game where they put their new suits and skills to the test as they virtually battle bad guys.

©Disney

We’re not sure what the technology is behind the real-time super-suits, but we did spot a patent last year for an augmented reality costume to be used in pictures. It’s possible that kids will be wearing these suits in augmented reality!

Fairytale Hall

Another experience is over in Fairytale Hall — a trio of activity rooms themed around some iconic Disney ladies — Rapunzel’s Art Studio, Belle’s Library, and Anna and Elsa’s Sommerhus.

©Disney

Kids will make arts and crafts like floating lanterns and paintings in Rapunzel’s Art Studio, read and act out stories near an enchanted painting in Belle’s Library, and use gesture-based games to throw snowballs and unlock ice powers in Anna and Elsa’s Sommerhus.

Walt Disney Imagineering Lab

Finally, the Oceaneer Club also contains the Walt Disney Imagineering Lab where kids can “discover the secrets of world-renowned Disney Imagineers” through hands-on activities and experiments. Sorcerer Mickey might stop by too!

©Disney

One of these activities will be the Ride Studio where kids can create a coaster along the lines of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Space Mountain, or Matterhorn Bobsleds and then climb into a capsule to virtually ride it.

It’s A Small World Nursery (Ages 6 months to 3)

For the extra littles, those 6 months to 3 years, the It’s A Small World” Nursery is the option. This area offers babysitting services in a whimsical environment inspired by (you guessed it) “it’s a small world!”

Kids will be left with Disney-trained counselors to play games, make crafts, watch movies, read books and even spend time with special Disney friends. The space is themed after Disney characters and their homelands in small world style. A playroom will even feature interactive murals with hand cranks that trigger effects!

Edge and Vibe (Ages 11 to 17)

Finally, tweens and teens will have access to Edge and Vibe, two older-kid hangouts that have counselor-led programs and very cool spaces. Both will have customized experiences and even secret entryways accessible only to the VIPs (that’s the tweens and teens).

©Disney

Edge is a space for those ages 11 to 14 years old to have fun, make friends and play games. The hangout is inspired by a chic New York City loft complete with a picnic area and graphic art displays called “photo walls.” The entrance will be hidden behind a piece of pop art!

©Disney

Vibe is for those 14 to 17 years old where they can meet new friends, watch movies, play games and participate in entertaining activities. This spot is inspired by a Parisian artists’ loft complete with neon signs, pop art, and floor-to-ceiling windows.

Okay…how do we go back in time and become a kid again? It seriously seems like kids will have a BLAST on the Disney Wish. As always, stay tuned to DFB for more updates!

NEWS: Jungle Cruise Reopening Timeline Announced for Disneyland

Disneyland is officially reopening TOMORROW!

Sleeping Beauty Castle

While we’ve shared that plenty of rides are reopening with the parks, a few of ’em are remaining closed. One of those is the Jungle Cruise, which is undergoing a retheme on both the east and west coasts! While Disney World’s Jungle Cruise is remaining open throughout the changes, the Disneyland version will stay closed. But now, when know WHEN it’ll welcome guests back on board!

Disneyland President Ken Potrock shared that Disneyland’s Jungle Cruise will reopen this summer! He explained that the ride will reopen with some necessary changes, but also with an enhanced story that’s ALL about the skippers. You can read more about all those changes here!

As of now, the Jungle Cruise is off Disneyland’s refurbishment calendar starting June 29th. However, Disney has not confirmed that this is the reopening date — only that the changes will debut sometime “this summer.”

PHOTOS, VIDEO: Belle Makes Distanced Meet and Greet Appearance in Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom

belle-fantasyland-2-2

While standard character meet-and-greets remain suspended at Walt Disney World, characters continue to make distanced appearances. At Magic Kingdom, guests can now catch Belle near her father’s cottage in Fantasyland. The princess, in her “provincial town” outfit, walked the exterior queue of Enchanted Tales with Belle, which has been closed for a year now due to COVID-19 restrictions. Belle posed for photos and waved to guests from a safe distance. She spoke to guests too, though had to project a […]

REVIEW – Jungle Navigation Co. LTD Skipper Canteen Should Not Be Skipped at Magic Kingdom

Magic Kingdom is not known for its food. Sure, there are certain iconic treats like a turkey leg, hand dipped corn dog, or Dole Whip soft serve, but when it comes to table service dining there aren’t many crave-able options. There is one location, however, that I get a craving for: Jungle Navigation Co. LTD Skipper Canteen. It is one of the best themed dining experiences in Magic Kingdom, and the menu is unique and adventurous.

Skipper Canteen Appetizers
Skipper Canteen Dining Room

Let’s set sail with Chrissy on our team who explored the wilds of this Adventureland treasure earlier this month.

  • Pao de Queijo – Gluten-friendly cheese bread served with chimichurri cream cheese – $12.00 (on the not-so-secret menu)
  • Orinoco Ida’s Cachapas –  House-made Corn Pancakes, Beer-braised Pork, Roasted Corn, Fresno Pepper Salsa, and Avocado Cream – $13.00
  • Falls Family Falafel – A secret recipe of Chickpeas, Garlic, Onions, Lemon Juice, and Herbs served with House-made Edamame Hummus and Toasted Pumpkin Seeds (Plant-based) – $10.00
  • Perkins Thai Noodles – Tofu, Seasonal Vegetables, and Rice Noodles tossed in a Spicy Soy-Chili-Garlic Sauce. (Plant-based) – $25.00
  • “Tastes like Chicken” Because it is! – Crispy-fried Chicken with Sweet Chili Glaze, Stir-fried Vegetables, and Seasoned Rice – $24.00
  • Kungaloosh! – An African-inspired Chocolate Cake with Caramelized Bananas served with Cashew-Caramel Ice Cream topped with Coffee Dust – $9.00
  • Panna-Connie’s Congo Lime Delight – Lime ‘Panna Cotta’ served with Mango-Lime Sorbet and Fresh Fruit (Plant-based) – $9.00

Before we dive into Chrissy’s thoughts on each dish, I have to point out that the Plant-based options at Skipper Canteen offer some of the best variety of any dining location at Magic Kingdom. There’s not much creativity when it comes to Plant-based dining at Magic Kingdom, but Skipper Canteen offers a good variety, and emphasis on vegetables rather than “fake meat.”

Pao de Queijo at Skipper Canteen
Pao de Queijo at Skipper Canteen

First, let’s let you in on a little secret. Skipper Canteen has a not-so-secret menu that is presented to each guest. The highlight of this little menu is the Pao de Queijo. It was cheesy and chewy, and a comforting way to get the meal underway.

A hearty way to start the adventure is with Orinoco Ida’s Cachapas. There was a little bit of spice, according to Chrissy, but not overwhelming. And it was a generous portion that could serve 2-3 adults as a nice appetizer.

Orinoco Ida’s Cachapas at Skipper Canteen

One of my favorite plant-based foods is falafel. It’s usually so flavorful no matter where I order it. Chrissy reports that the Falls Family Falafel had a nice crunchy exterior, with a creamy, fluffy inside with great flavor and balance of spice. For $10.00 you are served five falafel on a bed of edamame hummus with toasted pumpkin seeds. It’s a good deal.

Falls Family Falafel at Skipper Canteen

A highlight of the menu is the Perkins Thai Noodles entree. It is plant-based, but Chrissy’s party added sliced steak for $8.00 more. The portion, especially with the added steak, was overly generous and would satisfy two adults. This is a spicy dish, very spicy especially from Disney’s standards. With fresh, crisp stir-fried vegetables and oodles of noodles this is a must-do as long as you like heat.

If you’re anti-heat and love the sweeter side of life, then the “Tastes like Chicken” Because it is! just might float your boat. There was no heat in this dish; the glaze is nice and sweet.

Parting is such sweet sorrow so save room for dessert. Chrissy and her party ordered the Panna-Connie’s Congo Lime Delight as well as the Kungaloosh! Unless you are devoted to plant-based eating, Chrissy suggests passing on the Panna-Connie’s Congo Lime Delight, and go get a Dole Whip Soft Serve instead (it’s dairy-free). The Panna-Connie lacked flavor, both on the sweet side and tart side.

Kungaloosh! at Skipper Canteen

The Kungaloosh is the way to go. Chocolate? Yes. Coffee? Yes. Caramelized bananas? Sold! None of the flavors overpower each other and the Cashew-Caramel Ice Cream that tops it off elevates the entire plate.

We have ratings and rankings for every Walt Disney World restaurant on our site and Lines app. Our subscribers give Jungle Navigation Co. LTD Skipper Canteen a 89% thumbs up rating, and it is ranked #29 out of 105 table service restaurants.

If you’re a fan of the Jungle Cruise, the sorely missed Adventurer’s Club, or just Disney’s adventure themes in general, the dining room of Skipper Canteen is going to charm you. There is one large room with two smaller rooms to the side. There is no outdoor seating, but the main dining room is very airy. You must take a look around and examine the details. Even if you’re not intimately familiar with Disney’s adventure themed attractions, you’re sure to get tickle out of the décor.

Overall, if you prefer familiar cooking, with less exotic flavors, you may not enjoy Skipper Canteen. It does a great job of presenting Asian-influenced dishes as well as a few Mediterranean and African inspired options. And so, if these types of flavors appeal to you, then set a course for Skipper Canteen.

Have you ever dined at Skipper Canteen? How was your experience? Let us know in the comments!
