ICYMI, Disney is redoing Jungle Cruise at Walt Disney World and Disneyland, and giving this iconic, pun-filled boat ride a BRAND NEW storyline with new characters and scenes to replace some culturally insensitive depictions.
There’s an interesting part of this reimagining, however. Jungle Cruise at Magic Kingdom is going to STAY OPEN, so we’ve gotten some insight on how this ride is being altered! So far, we’ve seen some BIG changes (goodbye, Trader Sam!) and some more subtle changes.
Today, we took a trip through the rivers of Africa and Asia and noticed a HUGE (literally!) piece of the ride is GONE! The pole featuring climbing porters is no longer there!
You can still see rhino and laughing hyenas in this area, but the pole and porters have gone away! They’ve been replaced by three giant boxes.
Here’s what the scene looked like before, for reference:
We also noticed another construction change. There’s a ton of NETTING where Trader Sam once stood. It’s not the most picturesque change, but it comes with the territory, we suppose.
As of now, Disney is taking things out of Jungle Cruise, but soon things will be ADDED like new scenes with chimps and a storyline about the legendary Jungle Cruise skippers! We’re going to keep riding Jungle Cruise (because our jobs are HARD) and sharing updates to this ride as they come, so stay tuned to DFB for more updates!
