PHOTOS: The King Arthur Carrousel Makeover Is Complete in Disneyland

Disneyland is reopening on April 30th, and we are SO excited!

Disneyland’s Sleeping Beauty Castle

We’ve previously shared TONS of important information with you about this reopening — including a list of which rides will reopen with the parks! On that list was King Arthur Carrousel, an opening-day attraction in Disneyland that’s been undergoing some refurbishment. The ride has been closed since before the parks shut down in March 2020, but now, all of the work is finally complete.

So what’s changed? According to Disney, the carrousel has been brightened up! We’ll see new 14k gold leaf accents, vibrant details, and bold colors. The canopy has also been rebuilt and repainted to match its old color scheme of “parchment white” and purple. And guys, just look at how those colors pop!

But there’s a bit more to it than that. Every single one of the 68 horses on the Carrousel was hand repainted — and Disney used more than 30 different colors! The jewels on the horses were also reset, and the gold leaf detailing touched up.

Disney Imagineer Kim Irvine takes us behind the scenes of the refurb in a new video — and she also shares just why this classic attraction is so important to Disneyland. After all, a Carrousel is what inspired Walt to create the park.

We can’t wait to take a ride once Disneyland reopens! If you are planning a trip to the park, keep in mind that you must be a California resident, and you aren’t able to travel in groups larger than 3 families. We’ll keep you posted with more Disney news, so stay tuned to DFB!
