REVIEW: Is This Cake Worth Making the Trek Across Disney World?

Today, we stopped by Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge to check out a restaurant that recently extended its hours!

Animal Kingdom Lodge

The Mara was previously only open for breakfast, but now it’s back to offering dinner! We made a quick visit and grabbed some dessert along the way. Surprised? You shouldn’t be.

In honor of our lovely feathered friends that reside at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, we grabbed the Flamingo Cake.

Flamingos

The Flamingo Cake is a plant-based chocolate spice cake with coconut ganache! It was also topped with candy bits and a chocolate swirl.

Flamingo Cake!

The flavors of the spice cake honestly reminded us of Christmastime. We could really taste the cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg, which blended really nicely with the chocolate. The coconut ganache didn’t have an especially strong flavor, and it contributed to the overall moistness of the cake.

A look inside the cake

The cake was really rich, in a good, filling way. It was also a really great portion for its $4.79 price tag. The candy bits on top of the cake were tart and added a fun pop of color! And the chocolate swirl was a nice, tiny nod to the flamingos nearby.

There they are!

We were pleasantly surprised with this treat and would definitely order it again! Animal Kingdom Lodge is definitely off the beaten path, but if you’re stopping by, it’s worth checking out! But, be warned that kids may not like the spice flavor. Luckily, there are other options on the menu (like the Nyala Brownie which we also LOVE) that are kid-friendly.
